The hardworking moderators of the internet (many of whom are volunteers) don't deserve the abuse Musk, Weiss, Taibbi, et al. are encouraging.

I'm coming up on my 25th year of this work, and I am unfortunately very used to being abused. But that doesn't make it okay, and it's been awhile since I've seen such a concentrated volume of hatred directed at those who do this work.

@patrickokeefe Moderators have the power to keep hatred and disinformation at bay. This makes them as much a political target today as civil rights protesters were in the 1960s.
@securityskeptic That's a really interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.
@patrickokeefe
Stay strong. I appreciate the work you guys do.
@pamleo65 Kind of you to say! Thanks.
@patrickokeefe The Trump years sanctioned hate, and allowed decency and tolerance to dwindle. It’ll take a decade to recover from the sociopolitical damage of the #OrangeOgre
@patrickokeefe
When you speak of abuse to volunteer moderators, I think I can relate though, I don't know precisely what they do. At times in my career I was a systems administrator, back in the days of mini computers.
I learned then that folks with jobs that include providing a computer service to people were likely to often receive abuse for their efforts. When ppl struggled any in their computer use, they blamed the administrator.
