DHS Is Hunting Down Trump Critics. The ‘Free Speech’ Warriors Are Mighty Quiet.

For years, we’ve been subjected to an endless parade of hyperventilating claims about the Biden administration’s supposed “censorship industrial complex.” We were told, over…

I agree #MattTaibbi is no saint and has changed a bit, but this episode is misleading re him and the Russia conspiracy. It wasn't about Russia fucking around in 2016 like all states do, but the claim that Trump was working with Putin to do whatever necessary (including break laws) to beat Hilary. And they used the claim to try to make it impossible for him to do anything in the first term. And saying that got you called names and dismissed. I can see how that broke Matt.

Just for kicks, I looked at the headlines of #MattTaibbi 's and #GlennGreenwald 's blogs. No mention of deporting academics or sending immigrants to El Salvador prisons....hmmmm

it’s infuriating & embarrassing how much handwringing ink was spilled by idiotic reactionary liberals over the supposedly censorious nature of leftists who were neither too stupid nor timid to tell bigots, fascists, & neo-Nazis to shut up & fuck off.

These idiots 100% provided cover for the cultivation of actual fascist censorship by attacking its opponents.

The Words Federal Agencies Are Discouraged From Using Under Trump

Federal agencies have issued guidance to employees on hundreds of terms to limit or avoid using. An analysis of government websites shows many of the same words being removed.

Apparently this book #Owned argues the tech billionaires indirectly bought #GlennGreenwald and #MattTaibbi. Maybe. I do think media ownership always influences the content. And also that creators come to recognize how to shape their content to get popular with different crowds. But #CitationsNeeded always claims that if you're not their version of left on an issue, something bad faith is going on. And none of these folks ever say this all demands media decentralization.

#MattTaibbi is taking a victory lap re the #Trump EO telling govt not to tell social media companies what speech to limit. I get the sentiment but this isn't a real solution. Some speech is illegal. Govts get to speak and companies can react however they want. They can limit speech in service of govt officials they like without request and only the size of their platform will determine the political impact. Decentralization is the only real long-term solution. #SocialWeb

@gabriel @toiletpaper what u describe there is that the government have become effectively anti-democratic. I don't want to derail this by talking about the election but I think a lot of commentary now is flawed, many commentators seem to be trying to rally people behind trump, are making it seem as tho, wow look how many ppl snubbed the democratic party who spent more money, the people must be smarter than we thought in rejecting the corporate influence.

THEY DIDN'T REJECT THE CORPORATE INFLUENCE they saw it, watched it listened to it and simply lashed out against it. If they have folk reacting with hate and anger, the corporates win. the big success of the corporates was being able to slip harris in without debate. if ppl pushed to question that heavily i think its possible a real democratic process could have happened. corporate donors may have paid a tiny bit more to Harris, but it think it was just to create a sense of validity around her. She was a nothing person for 3.75 years and so they had to compensate for that by throwing a bit extra 'money' around. I feel that there was a hatred of the falseness of that positioning that was able to be weaponized and used, to herd folk back toward trump, and the alleged 'assasination' attempts. I still havent seen any reporting on how JillStein or even RFK went but, i sense that if people REALLY were to reject the corporate influence they would first IGNORE it. They'd not have gotten swept up in the narratives that were clearly aimed at reverse psychology and herding folk toward trump. Remember that so much airtime was given FREELY to trump so he didn't need to spend as much "money" if we are even going to call the currency money (thats another topic).

As i say i'd like to be able to find an thical source that describes the election results of all the parties including Stein and RFK, but I do think the corporate media were not rejected in this election. Since I tooted #MattTaibbi a couple days ago, i have since thought he's wrong. I sense folk were successfully herded into the uniparty yet again and the 3 or so billion in record 'spending', with more of that 'money' going to harris, is really a smokescreen for the dirty tricks that allowed the anti-democratic theater called an 'election' to operate, unchallenged.

We already know that RFK was deliberately sidelined, he tried to get 30-40 interviews and was almost completely ignored, with just 2. This is someone who had 24% of the vote at the start of 2024! .....and how could he be an anti-semite, because after Oct 7 he came out as effectively a genocide supporter, basically. So nothing adds up. There was clear corporate election intereference and dirty tricks to engineer the election. And i haven't even touched on bigtech and their support for the uniparty.

i find that ppl who understand the importance of how money is created use the best vocabulary to handle false government, and false authority. I dont believe there is such a thing as anti-capitalist, there are only people on a sliding scale of how much they want. Ppl who dont want many material things can seem less capitalistic. Even an anti-capitalist will want a small space to themselves for a time.

In an recent interview Matt Taibbi has a LOT of very interesting things to say about the state of the internet. Also this....

>The [US] election is already a massive turning point in American history because its essentially exposed the entire cultural framework of the country as having no influence and having been lost to its audience, and that's something we've never seen before in this country. It's fascinating(....) Everything is on the table now. This is maybe the end of everything for NATO, for the intelligence services(....) these agencies that we fund so heavily can't even answer the most basic questions about their own populations, they don't even understand things that the average barber in a small town in America gets without ANY funding. These people are so locked up in their own hermetically sealed bubble of stupidity that they can't see beyond their own prejudices, and so that makes them dangerous and useless and expensive. So its ironic but it worries me too [with respect to assassination attempts on Trump] because their continued bureaucratic existence is at stake." #MattTaibbi on #AfshinRattansi #GoingUnderground

he says he's being "suppress[ed]" by the #muskrat today also.
