Being Eddie won the Outstanding Documentary (Film) award at the 57th NAACP Image Awards! Congrats to everyone who worked on the film, including the Netflix doc team and my wife!

Anyway, I was reading the comments on a post about this and someone said something akin to, "I signed up to Substack for the feature set. I'd leave if I found someone else with the feature set."

Two things.

1. I don't care what the feature set of the Third Reich is or how good their UI/UX people are. I'm not using it.

2. Good gracious, man. They power email newsletters. Yes, they have layered some "social" over it, but let's not pretend they cured cancer here.

Use. Something. Else.

he whole "Substack profits from nazis" thing is making rounds again.

It's 100% true, and I'm always glad to see this one swing around the sun once more because people need to know about it. At this point in 2026, there is *no one* at Substack who has clean hands. This will follow them for the rest of their lives.

I really liked Queen of Chess. It's an interesting story, well-told, and Kasparov serves as such a fascinating foil to Polgár.

"A Hungarian girl dreams of conquering the male-dominated world of international chess. After a 15-year battle against world champion Garry Kasparov, Judit Polgár revolutionizes the sport’s patriarchal culture to become one of the greatest chess prodigies in history and the greatest woman chess player of all time."

Queen of Chess is out today on Netflix, from the doc team my wife is on.

But there are two ends of a rope that are constantly being pulled. On one end, we have the constant lack of surprise expressed by many. "How can anyone be surprised? I'm not surprised." On the other end is not letting deeply harmful things pass by, just because it's not the first time, the worst time, the right time, etc. Just because the bigotry is overwhelming does not mean each act of bigotry is not worth noting.

Trump is a racist person who posts racist things. Whether you are a racist or simply comfortable standing next to a racist because he does other things you like (or hurts the people you want to hurt), I don't personally draw much of a distinction there.

I've said this before, probably multiple times over the last decade plus, and I'm sure I'll say it again. You aren't surprised by his actions, I'm sure.

You aren't part of the American public if you care about how Black people are depicted by the President of the United States. That's not me speaking. That's the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

Late last night, Donald Trump shared an obviously racist depiction of the Obamas. "Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public," Leavitt told us today.
