Facebook = old people who hate computers

Mastodon = old people who love computers

Also on Mastodon:

* Autistic people
* Furries
* LGBTQ+, but especially T
* Journalists

@atomicpoet not that many journalists that I've come across
@you_jo_girl I've met a lot of them. They even have dedicated instances.
@atomicpoet fair enough, I just haven't come across many in my corner. Would like to though

@you_jo_girl You'll specifically find them on journa.host and newsie.social.

But they're elsewhere too.

@you_jo_girl @atomicpoet I’d like to find more Australian journalists. How do I find them on another instance?

@atomicpoet
* boomer
* researcher
* lawyers
* activists
* white hats

but still stunningly few idiots

@atomicpoet @rigo Except Raspberry Pi, apparently.
@atomicpoet *gigglesnort* this is annoyingly accurate
@atomicpoet I’m here to make an indie rock community 🥲
@atomicpoet … and people who are weary of older people being labelled and shamed
@atomicpoet why single out LGBTQ? Anybody can be anything online. I could be a small potted cactus posting away from a sunny windowsill over the kitchen sink. I could even be a bearded guy in a grey tee-shirt with a purple sparkly tutu, fishnets and knee high yellow leather boots. Or I could be a woman with a stick on beard or I could have borrowed the picture because selfies of Brazilian tree frogs are unappealing lol.
@britishtechguru No singling out. There are other groups on that list. That said, much of the Fediverse has been built by LGBTQ+ folk.
@atomicpoet as long as oddballs aren't persecuted I shall be happy because I am without a shadow of a doubt a complete oddball.
@atomicpoet
Crap. What about those still using both?

@thekat03 Maybe you love to hate computers.

Or maybe you hate to love computers.

@atomicpoet

...
...
Yup. Both. 😁

@atomicpoet @thekat03 I love computers. I love that they give you the tools to create, visualise, control very complicated processes, the list goes on. They do also have a small added function. Communication. But I think mobile phones have taken a large step forward to offer that functionality so we tend to use that more so for this purpose, like I am now. My computer is my work station.
@BigD @thekat03 I tend to think mobile phones are actually mobile computers.
@atomicpoet @thekat03 Yes they have evolved into more than what they were designed originally for. Which is great. My first mobile phone weighed at least a kilogram, about 200×300mm. Try putting that in your pocket.🤓
@atomicpoet @BigD @thekat03 I remember getting my first smartphone and realising that it wasn't a phone with apps on it but actually a computer, with all the admin work that that implies, with a phone app running on it. That's unavoidable for smartphones but too many things are computers now. Nobody wants to load security updates on a fridge or update the firmware on a lightbulb and, no, the toaster may not have an IP address.
@DanielRigal @atomicpoet @thekat03 @BigD I’m so old that my first smartphone was a Dell Axim tethered to a Motorola flip phone.
@DanielRigal @atomicpoet @BigD @thekat03 but, but, but... what will force you to upgrade your fridge / toaster / car if they can't simply sunset security updates for it?

@atomicpoet

Mobile phones are computers with a somewhat useful phone app.

@thekat03 Well, Facebook is a slime pit. You CAN leave.
@janeayers
Oh I am well aware of the slimy parts, but it also is the social media platform of choice for extended family, and they're worth staying for.
@thekat03 I guess that's pretty common, and I understand, but phone, text, and email are pretty good for that too, and one doesn't have to support such a massive force for harm as Facebook.
@atomicpoet Guilty as charged, sir - I lasted just nine months on Facebook and left in May 2010.

@atomicpoet

No, Mastodon = Old people who love to hate computers

@atomicpoet

Did I give you permission to use my likeness in this meme?!?!?

lol ;)

@atomicpoet I'm starting to sweat any time a "which age group are you in" question comes up. "notthelastone notthelastone notthelastone....whew"
@atomicpoet I finally know why I wanted to be here! Thank you 😊
@atomicpoet and both groups use computers regularly.
@atomicpoet I happen to be a young person who loves computers under highly specific conditions. ;)
@atomicpoet
So, what do you consider old in this context???
@Lsstaub Let's put it this way: we're 86,400 TikToks worth a full clock.

@atomicpoet Facebook = old people who can't see text too well and want to make video calls to their relatives.

Mastodon = Not an audiovisual service.

@atomicpoet
V'ger = old computer who hates people
@atomicpoet but I’m on both!
🤔 explains my love/hate relationship with computers
@atomicpoet is there a place for old people who love people?
@atomicpoet I kind of thought that too when I saw a poll "What was your first social network" ending with some site that I have never even heard of winning lol
@atomicpoet Mastodon & Facebook = old people who are meh towards computers.

@atomicpoet and I'm on both, and I'm old so I guess that makes me fit in the ......

Old people who love old computers

Category. 😉

@atomicpoet

This 71 year old thanks you for not calling me a boomer.

@atomicpoet I'm not OLD.
I've just been 39 since 2009!
(And I know who both of these people are)
@atomicpoet With regards to Mastodon: I feel seen.
@atomicpoet AH-HAHA! Wait a tick... I am old?! 😎
