Ginni Thomas was involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 election using the independent state legislature theory—central to a SCOTUS case that could let extremist state legislatures pick the president.

Clarence Thomas heard the case today and—you guessed it—endorsed the theory.

@rbreich How is his cholesterol? Tick tock.
@rbreich and, bonus violated 28 USC sec. 455. It’s not an enforceable law but a binding one on #SCOTUS
@rbreich Our SCOTUS is made up of at least 5 party hacks, put there and happy to make political rightwingers happy.
@rbreich How would this ruling affect The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact?

@rbreich Where's that Supreme Court code of ethics with mandatory recusal policies.

Can we get that done in the lamb duck session?

@Ajwseven @rbreich I know what you meant to say, but “lamb duck session” is my favourite game meat combo.

@deejayh67 @rbreich Haha, didn't catch it until you pointed it out. 😂

Go enjoy that Lamb Duck. Do you have Turducken during Thanksgiving too?

@Ajwseven @rbreich lamb and duck are my two favorite meats
@rbreich and the Dems & our government will stand there impotently as the slow motion March towards authoritarianism continues

@rbreich
Just one observation. If they move to dismantle the popular vote as we have known it over our lives, they'd better have the power to carry thru all actions quickly, or the next election can nullify them.

On the other hand, if such a nullification happened, I predict many of the perverted features of our system, like gerrymandering and dark PACs, would be torn down.

@rbreich Ridiculous. Clarence Thomas needs to be replaced. He is obviously biased.
@rbreich somebody needs to put the kibash on this.
@rbreich Watching our country be gutted by extremist republicans sucks
@rbreich Clarence should be impeached for blatant conflict of interest. I cannot believe how unethical the SC has become, with no consequences.
@rbreich What a dangerous joke the Roberts court. How cen he not make Thomas recuse himself? They need to expand the court ASAP!
@rbreich that theory is 100% faulty in accordance with the Constitution. The States must never have rights equal to or superior to the Federal Government. The theory is a idea grown out of the idea of a confederacy ran government. The correct Constitutional way to fix Voter's Rights is explained here at #Ialonewillfix
@rbreich We’ve plunged through the looking glass.
@rbreich Can House Democrats file and pass an impeachment before the lose the majority in January?
@rbreich Scalia and Thomas need to eat a big steak and do some intensive HIIT sessions in an enclosed room with poor ventilation.
@deejayh67 Not sure if you saw the news on Scalia...
@rbreich I wonder if Clarence Thomas is giving Ginni these ideas & legal maneuvers?He obviously doesn’t seem to have qualms about using his position of uncheckable power to bend the meaning of law to his political leanings.Just a thought.
@rbreich Has there ever been such entanglement of interests between a SCOTUS justice and their spouse's employment without recusal? This feels pretty unprecedented.
@rbreich @alex_cox "unprecedented" should be the word of the year.
@jbbeal @rbreich I do like "goblin mode" though. It's a way of life.
@rbreich At this point I'd be surprised if Thomas recused himself from a case where his wife was a primary litigant.
@rbreich
How is Clarence Thomas's vote not an ethics violation?
@rbreich Clarence Thomas is unfit to serve on the Court. This was apparent during his confirmation hearing and has been the case ever since.
@rbreich This makes my head hurt.
@rbreich #ClarenceThomas is despicable. How could he not in all good conscience, not recuse himself from this matter. He is what happens when there is no checks and balances., #MooreVHarper
@rbreich Congress needs to pass a law forcing #scotus to adhere to ethics rules.
@old_hippie The problem is that #scotus is responsible for interpreting said law. So it's pointless. These justices have to be honorable people of outstanding character, and the confirmation process should ensure that, but it has failed in a few cases.
@d_himes Pass a law that requires an independent monitor. I believe Congress has such power. Doing so would force SCOTUS to publicly disavow it.
@d_himes @old_hippie an AI would be far superior to the likes of scurrilous SCROTUS jusitces* Thomas, Gorshuch, Kavanaugh and Alito.
@rbreich It's disgraceful that he is allowed to sit for this case. It tarnishes the whole country.
@rbreich Thomas needs to be impeached from the court.
@rbreich I am sure he was completely impartial deciding something endorsed by his wife. Has the court sunk to this level of corruption? Apparently so.
@rbreich SCOTUS voted on it already ? I hadn't realized. So he endorsed the Pinckney fraud papers, how revolting.
@rbreich It's interesting that Socrates keeps getting proven wrong. In the Republic, the Socratic argument goes that the most qualified or best person should hold that position in society which they are best qualified for. In government, the wisest should rule. (An aristocracy). Promoting people with lots of education and learning to high positions of government has actually resulted in a kakistocracy, government by the least qualified. Clarence Thomas fits the bill perfectly here

@rbreich

Thomas . Should . Resign . From . The . Bench.

He cannot be trusted.

@rbreich And this is why Congress needs to pass ethics rules for SCOTUS
@rbreich
When is somebody going to do something about him, he's corrupt and court has lost all credibility. The Supreme Court is slowly destroying American freedoms that were hard fought for.
@rbreich judicial coup! Think it was Kushner (might have been Jr) that said on camera ‘the hostel takeover is complete’… might have been at the coronation of Barrett to Supreme Court? Anyway, it was clear to me that GOP had legislative, executive and judicial branch locked up at that point and the extent of lawlessness within the GOP was and continues to be obscene!
@rbreich America was born by revolution. It then warred against itself. It has been in continuous conflict. It is in its final death throes.
@rbreich All laws are Nuremberg Laws when the courts are corrupt from top to bottom.
@rbreich Stupid that they Don't get Democrats can be able to do the same, My state Michigan has a Democratic Legislature, they could use that to deny any Republican president from ever winning there. This knife cuts both ways. GOP is again being Short Sighted; all it takes is one landslide state election in a gop state to put it in the hands of Dems. GOP Wins A battle Dems win the war #Bluewave

@rbreich

It is a very concerning time for democracy on both sides of the pond. I wish I could clearly see democracy winning out. But with voter ID laws, voter suppression, gerrymandering and then this on top, it seems like we are losing our rights, and democracy is on life support.

@rbreich He shouldn't have any say at all! Are we going to wait another several years before we do anything about him??
@rbreich Dangerous people the Thomases frighteningly so. How can these grotesque assaults be attenuated?
@rbreich Let’s don’t forget that some of the Supreme Court justices belong to Donald Trump’s cult
@rbreich A system with no checks and balances is a system that can lead to authoritarianism
@rbreich "Supreme" court is really taking their name literally. Playing a dangerous game of HOW LOW CAN WE GO before they break out the torches and pitch forks.
@rbreich Just like most decent horror flicks, the danger is coming from inside the building.
