@mayaisloading I've heard #Hive is another one of the options on the table right now and.... it just looks like the Bird site? And the creators are just asking people to trust them, I guess, that they just want old social media back?
Like, give it 10 years and if it's successful enough, it won't matter what they want after they sell it lol. The centralized structure seems the same, so I feel like there's a lesson to be learned 🤷♂️
@mayaisloading @Oli_Son There is a way to self-verify if you have presence elsewhere online, like say a personal website. You should be able to find the info on your account profile settings.
Speaking of which, I just did that now 🤔
@mayaisloading Twitter is the garbage dump we played at as kids. We'd find all sorts of cool things in the wreckage to show folks.
Maybe there'd be a dead animal that we'd fling at the popular kids playing the fridges still with doors.
Occasionally, we'd get mugged by the local troglodytes, and Earl, the abnormal dog catcher who always smelled of pee would bore us with his conspiracies about being micro-chipped.
Now at Mastodon, we look back fondly as we deal with the lingering hepatitis.
@mayaisloading Yes, there are some key philosophical and user interfaces differences between the birdsite and Mastodon. And Mastodon appears to be handling the influx of migrants well.
What we need to remember, though, is that *all* internet sites can be attacked by high-volume ne'er-do-wells and we need to be prepared. MuskmElon in the most recent step of such an attack on Twitter but he is not the first.
