The idea for the ban originally came from a Citizens' Assembly.

Given the option of a 2.5 hour train ride and a 1 hour flight, the train wins. A flight takes longer and is just plain miserable, unless you just arrived transatlantic, and now must take a train into Paris, then change stations, and then take another train, or two. That would just suck. That means fly to LHR, or AMS or FRA or something first. Not so good for the French Airlines.
