スカイマークで宮古島へ
今週末は会社のいつもの旅行仲間と4人で、初めての宮古島へ来ています。沖縄本島へは那覇で義妹が結婚式を挙げた時に出席するために行ったことがありましたが、2泊3日でとんぼ返りのようになってしまい、美ら海水族館へ行ったくらいで他に観光らしいこともできませんでしたし、そもそもそれも20年ほど前のことなので、沖縄自体がほとんど初めてのようなものです。
今回はスカイマークの安いフライトを予約できたので、神戸空港から下地島空港の往復で24500円で済みました。やはり新幹線での東京往復よりもだいぶ安いというのはお得な感じがします。宮古島は、最近行き慣れてきた台北とほぼ同緯度なので、同じくらい時間がかかりますが、パスポートが不要で出入国審査などがないのはだいぶ気が楽です。
下地島空港に着陸すると、タラップを降りてからエプロンを歩いてターミナルに向かうことになるのですが、この時のターミナルまでの通路が南国らしい植物に囲まれていて、いきなりリゾート気分でとても良かったです。なお、下地島空港は宮古島第2の空港ということもあって非常にこじんまりしているのですが、そのコンパクトな感じも良いと思います。しかし、この小さな島に空港が2つあること自体も驚きですが、滑走路脇で海を見ている間にも結構頻繁に離着陸していてびっくりしました。
下地島空港は宮古島本島から離れた島にあるのですが、この下地島に接した伊良部島と宮古島との間には伊良部大橋という長大な海上橋が架かっていて、車で楽に移動することができます。逆に言えば、下地島空港の価値もこの橋があってこそということになりますね。
ということで、とりあえず宮古島に来たのですが、あいにく滞在予定の間だけ天候が優れず、分厚い雲に覆われた空と猛烈な強風を体験することになってしまいました。それでも海の色は青くて綺麗なので、これで空も青かったらどんなに美しかっただろうかと思わずにいられません。もう一度来いということでしょうかね。
