Did you know you can tell the age of a fake Christmas tree by counting the rings of tape?

@felicityhannah our box gave up completely about two years ago. It was more tape than box at that point mind...

Frankenbox.

@felicityhannah @mazjay @Hippyadam

Our box is more tape than cardboard, but it’s still hanging in there!!

@goz @felicityhannah @Hippyadam my new box from last year now has a hole in it because getting it down from the attic I dropped it and it fell all the way down the ladder then down the stairs...let the retaping begin
@Hippyadam @felicityhannah could it be an excellent addition to the ship of Theseus?πŸ™ƒ
@felicityhannah put ours up for the 17th time this year. Cost us Β£2.95 / Christmas πŸ‘πŸŒ² saved 17 real trees
@felicityhannah That photo made me do a double-take. It looked like a photo of our tree box (with tape rings) on our wood floor just yesterday. I suspect I’m not the only one that had this reaction.
@spardo what if, it's indeed your tree, in your box on your floor

@felicityhannah
@felicityhannah ours gave up the ghost last year after 26yrs.

@felicityhannah
Our box for our tree had many rings of tape before it was unviable and we got a canvas bag for it.

Not sure how that fits with the analogy.

Petrified/ fossilised tree maybe?

@felicityhannah today I will retrieve 'old faithful' from the garage... She's been doing service since about 1997.. in four residences. The things she's seen....
@felicityhannah Tape rings and the shape of the box. Ours has more of a curve on the sides now!
@felicityhannah Our Christmas tree box is more tape now, than box.
@felicityhannah ours is trying to trick us into thinking it's younger than it really is... the box was closed with string at least once due to a shocking shortage of tape 🀣
@felicityhannah ours was no longer a box, just four pieces of cardboard
@felicityhannah We learned this in my 2nd year of med school. It's legit science.
@felicityhannah
🎯
A perfect observation
@felicityhannah are they really fake or just artificial?
@felicityhannah the box i store my decorations in is more tape than cardboard now
@felicityhannah πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
@felicityhannah lol, hope you have a good holiday season regardless of the authenticity of the tree.
@felicityhannah Yeah πŸ™ˆ looks almost the same here πŸ˜‚ πŸŽ„
@felicityhannah Not just the rings of tape, but the *kinds* of tape. Our box growing up had packing tape, masking tape, duct tape, and that black electrical tape for wrapping around frayed cords. I'm pretty sure my parents got that tree before I was born (1982), and we kept it until after my sister graduated high school (2006).
@felicityhannah this clever observation made me smile - will have to count the sticky tape rings 😊
@felicityhannah that's how we do it too. We use colored duct tapes, but same idea.
@felicityhannah aargh yes, those boxes what you can't ever get the tree in again after it's set up only once. πŸŽ„πŸ€¬
@felicityhannah yep, I do. This is from my Facebook post Dec. 1, 2020. The tree was retired this year after lots of service.

@felicityhannah And the tens’ place is counting the number of different boxes and bins it has lived in.

(My mother’s tree β€” the one I grew up with β€” has been in her possession for almost 50 years now. And it was originally bought second hand.)

@felicityhannah And it's in surprisingly good (if not perfect) shape. One of me and my siblings will probably inherit it eventually and actually use it.
@felicityhannah I've never managed to get a tree back in the box after it's use!
@felicityhannah my box was starting to look like this but then I switched to just using a ratchet strap to hold it together πŸ˜‚
@felicityhannah
So true.🀣🀣
@felicityhannah Oh wow, I thought this was just me. Hilarious and true!
@felicityhannah it all makes sense now, thanks! πŸ˜‚
@felicityhannah We have boxes that were repurposed for Christmas decor which have outlasted the original contents by over a decade!
@felicityhannah
ROFL.. Looks like mine, but with less tape!
@felicityhannah Geezo! I thought I was the only person that did this! The box is in a bit of a state now after about ten years of stuffing the damn thing in... It never went in the same way it originally was packed! All the fake berries have been munched by mice in the garage yet out it comes every year!
@felicityhannah I marvel at how much I can learn here! :)
@felicityhannah genuinely funny - thank you 😊
@felicityhannah
πŸ˜‚ Yeap! My wife and I had that conversation when we got out our tree this year. πŸŽ„
Our box is looking very sad. I believe it's time to replace it.
