Have to agree with Garak here, all exploted workers should #strike, if the withdrawal of their labour disrupts the "economy" then clearly their contribution is important and their demands should be heard.
I love how twenty something years later (don't look for how long exactly I don't need to be reminded of my mortality again) that #DeepSpace9 consistently provides the most fuel for lefty memes compared to the other Treks. One of the reasons it remains my favourites.

We have Kira being a freedom fighter dealing with the post-Colonization provisional government and not wanting to be subsumed into the Federation, we see the Cardassians are explicitly fascist, O'Brien encouraging the first Ferengi Union which ends with I think the first quoting of Marx in Star Trek, Dax's Klingon friends accepting her name and gender allegory.

We don't talk about the Worf helping a fascist uprising on Risa ep that's not very #DeepSpace9 or #StarTrek of him

@Lamhfada kira doesnt evensugarcoat terrorism with euphemis

@Lamhfada
Well, there are good meme fodder in most STNG also.

@Lamhfada If they're so important to the economy, then they should've been treated better.
@XanIndigo @Lamhfada Exactly! Payment should be equal to how much your labour is relevant for society, not how much the green-red numbers go up and down
@Lamhfada Oh, plain, simple Garak for the win.
Standing with the striking workers!
@Lamhfada I simply cannot believe that Zahawi played the 'playing into Putin's hands' guilt card. What a despicable creature he is.
@Lamhfada There needs to be a general strike in solidarity. Even a short one, and not one where people work a little harder today or buy more today that offsets some strike or boycott tomorrow. IF more groups take it on, then one group of workers cannot be vilified for it and the administration cannot really be blamed for the economic results, which is an issue Biden has to deal with in the runup to an election.

@Lamhfada
Reminder:

Always substitute "rich people's yacht money" for the term "the economy."

@tofugolem @Lamhfada i hate rail yachts 😡😡😡.
@Lamhfada it’s funny that the only thing that unites Republicans and Democrats is crushing Workers. The fact that the paid sick leave was in a separate bill is pretty telling.
@Lamhfada I'm not sure someone who makes $130K IS "EXPLOITED." After the raise the new contract gives them they will average over $160K.
@Lamhfada absolutely its insane how many jobs are exploited and the rich jobs in the work from home 100k+ jobs are stuck up as hell
@Lamhfada in Brazil we have 15 days sick leave paid by the employer, after that paid by the welfare institute
@Lamhfada I had a conversation terrifyingly like this with a relative this morning. 😁

@Lamhfada Should all doctors be allowed to strike? Law enforcement?

Life has complexity. We do the best we can.

@Lamhfada Rom is the union leader not Garak, but I love Garak anyway.
@Lamhfada weird - JUST saw this on another site (Diaspora) just seconds ago ... ;-)
@Lamhfada this is funny from a german perspective, over here the railway workers frequently strike and completely fuck up the day-to-day life of many people at least for some days.
And it works mostly.
@Lamhfada disruption to the economy will give the management and government the maximum incentive to quickly reach a fair and equitable agreement!
@Lamhfada this clearly highlights the problem that undervalued unpaid family carers have: if we all withdraw our labour, our loved ones may die, but I doubt most people would even notice, and I doubt the economy would be greatly impacted either

@Lamhfada I work in retail. when the "lockdowns" started, we never closed. and I was even given a legal document to carry with me at all times incase I got stopped by police so they would let me thru cause i was an "essential" worker.

yet, i never saw any sort of pay raise. not even so much as hazard pay, despite risking the lives of myself and my family.

I certainly wasn't treated as essential.

(lockdown in quotes cause we never had an actual one.)

@Lamhfada so much wisdom in DS9. I think I liked this series the most because it was just a cast full of anti-heroes.
