I was vaguely looking forward to this one because I remembered there was an episode about the crew being unable to communicate verbally but I couldn't remember anything else about it, and it sounded like an interesting premise to see how they might learn to work together without a shared language.

So I guess the reason I don't remember much is that the fact that the virus caused aphasia, specifically, was kind of irrelevant; the most any character contributed after developing that symptom was Jake calling over a doctor to point out O'Brien's fever. They may as well have just fallen unconscious for all the difference it would have made to the plot.

Also I had to kind of assume that they were assiduously logging everything of note they learned about the virus and transmitting all of it to Star Fleet and to Bajor, but it would have been nice to explicitly mention that. Also since it's a good bet Odo was immune, I really wanted to see him called to Ops as soon as they figured out they were dealing with an airborne virus (that nobody was masking against) and escalated his command authorisation and automatically looped him in on all significant developments etc.

I feel like on TNG they would have done that for Data for sure.

Some weekend when I have time in the morning, I will have to attempt some of these variations on generic black #coffee ...

I also have always wondered what #Raktajino tastes like. (Fictional #Klingon coffee-like caffeinated drink from #StarTrek #DeepSpace9 ) #DeepSpaceNine

I haven't seen any Trekkies mention it but there's a very important reason Jake Sisko's unpublished book about his father is called "Anselm".

Saint Anselm was the theologian who came up with the ontological argument for the existence of god. And it ties in to the episode's themes.

The ontological argument is that

1. God is perfect
2. Imagine a list of all possible attributes of god
3. The definition of perfect is that on such a list, whenever two possible attributes are in conflict, he has the better one
4. Existing is better than non-existence
5. Therefore, God exists

Obviously, Jake doesn't think of his father as perfect. But he's exploring what it means for his father to be with the prophets from the perspective of imagination. He knows that his father is going to find a way to make the better thing true.

It's also a lens the prophets themselves used in Far Beyond the Stars. Benny Russell was a way for Sisko to come to understand himself and his role in the universe. Russell is forced to imagine the attributes of an ideal Benjamin Sisko and chooses to insist on the better one at any cost.

I HAVE A SUDDEN URGE TO REWATCH DS9 😮😮😮

#AllTrekWatch #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy #DeepSpace9

I Am Watching ‘Star Trek’s ‘Deep Space 9’, Genetically Engineered Friends of Dr. Bashir, Lauren & Patrick, What Challenges Do They have?

I was born into & will die with Learning Challenges (in- language processing & short & long term memories), have earned degree in SLD, many certifications, including VE & ESE, from the most respected higher educational school in Fl., whatever that is worth, & facilitated learning in Elementary schools’-high schools’-adult education school’s ESE & Etc. classrooms. So I understand that challenges can be extremely hard identify-prove & everywhere, I think everyone has a challenge, to some degree.

Yet I cannot understand the challenges that genetic engineered friends of Dr. Bashir character Lauren (played by Hillary Shepard) & Patrick (played by Michael Keenan).
The only thing that comes close to challenges I see in- Lauren having is higher attraction drive to men, than the average person &
Patrick having is he is easily manipulated-to easy to go along with others, especially by Jack.

Lauren thing seems like UPN censored away the writers from going to a real challenge & forced them to her being just higher attraction drive to men, than the average person, which is not a challenge.
&
Patrick thing is not even close to being a challenge at all, maybe, lack confidence or whatever, but not a challenge, while Lauren is also not a challenge, I can understand that if the writers were not censored away from her being sex addiction, then that would been a challenge.

I Am Watching ‘Deep Space 9’ & Something has Slowly Developed into A Complaint & Un-Able to Understand- The Challenges of 2-Genetically Engineered Friends of Dr. Bashir.
