I'm old enough to remember that respecting and defending the Constitution was the most basic expectation of every citizen, let alone someone running for president. Even after everything we've been through, the idea that Republicans will stick with a man who flagrantly demands the Constitution be discarded to install him into office: Infuriating.

@StevenBeschloss

They use the word Patriot like they're popping Tic Tacs.
They parade red white and blue....everything. But ignore what it stands for.
They claim they're indicative of the country as a whole. WOW, are they wrong about that.

Tossing the Constitution under the bus....as long as it makes them feel they've been right all along? Um, NOT a surprise.

@StevenBeschloss The Republican party is no longer trying to be part of - or cooperate with - the US government. After "everything we've been through," I'd think you'd understand they've been telling us all who and what they are: fascists and people who are willing to put fascists into power.
@batyalee @StevenBeschloss
#Statists believe they somehow have the right to just ignore any laws that their local sheriff won’t enforce. #ConstitutionalSheriffs

@batyalee @StevenBeschloss
Blatant now. No one took Mein Kampf seriously either. These delusional (psychotic) paranoids will NEVER change and will never stop trying to eliminate what they perceive as their mortal enemies. Just try to convince someone with a tin-foil hat that aliens are not listening to their thoughts. Calcified delusional systems are just that: calcified.
@batyalee @StevenBeschloss If you have ten people eating at the same table and one of them is a fascist, you have ten fascists sitting at that table.
@StevenBeschloss
Shocking, but not surprising
@StevenBeschloss
Yes, agree - the US was proud of its Constitution, & other countries admired you for it. To the surprise of the press, Americans actually responded seriously to Biden's call to support democracy.
@StevenBeschloss
This is an attack on the USA
@StevenBeschloss No wonder Putin loves 'em so much.
@StevenBeschloss Republicans are in a pickle, of their own making. They recently tried shaking Trump, but Trump refuses to go away and he polls higher than anyone else inside the party. They had two chances to convict Trump during impeachment trials, but they didn’t. Now, they appear reluctant to criticize Trump’s statement about discarding the constitution, in case he somehow becomes their nominee. It’s a hot mess.

@DidiQ @StevenBeschloss
The Republicans are often pickled, especially at conventions.

Der Drumpfsterfeuer sloshes when you shake him. It is really, really, extremely creepy.

You don't really have a majority in the House if part of your party is just bonkers and self-obstructionist. They've had that problem since 2010 and are still suffering from it.

Amazing how many people who call themselves "conservative" are anarchists bent upon shutting down the government.

@StevenBeschloss The only part of the Constitution that Republicans care about is half of the second amendment.
@StevenBeschloss as a military veteran, I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution...rhetoric like his really bothers me
@StevenBeschloss And their folly in following him will be revealed on Tuesday, as I suspect Herschel Walker will lose by a margin that is not even close...
@StevenBeschloss During a hiatus from newspaper, I served as an Americorps VISTA, I worked as a Census crew leader, and a deputy sheriff. I have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution six times. I can't imagine anyone, much less an ex-president, having such contempt for their country and their own promise that they would advocate "terminating" the Constitution. The SOB should be deported.
@Sameagle @StevenBeschloss But what country do we hate that bad? Iran? North Korea?
@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss I'm thinking North Korea. No McDonald's, Burger King or KFC there. Do we have a missile big enough to stuff his fat ass in, or will we have to rely on the new B-21 Raider and its bomb bay doors?
@Sameagle @StevenBeschloss We do need to test out the B-21 anyway, and DPRK radar and SAMs are likely a softer target than the PRC. TFG and Kim should get along like a house on fire. And let's be kind and let TFG pack his own parachute.
@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss Who said anything about a parachute?
@Sameagle @StevenBeschloss Hope is more painful than despair :) I imagine he's as competent at folding his own parachute as he is at anything else.
@StevenBeschloss The GOP is blinded by greed, hate, and white supremacy. They’re willing to burn the constitution rather than allow brown/black/trans/queer people to exist and marry.
@StevenBeschloss republican are capable of anything
@Waterloo @StevenBeschloss Except competence. And loyalty. And... well, I could go on.
@StevenBeschloss the “both sides” corporate media probably won’t even mention it

@StevenBeschloss

@Porpentina2017

How does anyone think that discarding the United States Constitution to install Trump won't result in him discarding it to become king forever? These money-loving politicians ought to know that if they make him king, they will no longer be needed by him. The first thing a villain does to a victim they need is get what they need then get rid of them when they dont need them any more. Watch a movie. Thats how it goes.

@StevenBeschloss Well, one piece of the equation that people seem to be missing is it's extremely likely he'll be indicted before even get close to the election. His running for president is not going to stop what's going to happen to him.

@PDFlynn @StevenBeschloss
Here's hoping the trial is delayed enough to give him time to wreak utter havoc with the Fascist Party. Murdoch and DeSantis have no idea what kind of bear they have prodded by 'betraying' him.

Popcorn made. Butter anyone?

@PDFlynn @StevenBeschloss He wouldn't be the first candidate to run for president from a prison cell :/ Only Congress can declare him unfit for office.
@DrDanMarshall You're right. See, I didn't know that.
@PDFlynn He wouldn't even be the most patriotic candidate for president to run from prison. I'm not sure what the protocol for the Secret Service is if and when he finally gets his ass in the slam.
@DrDanMarshall I don't think he will ever see a day behind bars. There could be a scenario where some sort of house arrest happens, but even that is doubtful. I just don't think it is in our DNA to go there, but if guilt is found, we must.

@StevenBeschloss Abysmal. Worthy of severe scorn.

Me too. We’ve tried all of these descriptions but the essential problem is lack of shame. One cannot shame Trump, shame MAGA, shame so many others. They don’t feel it, so shame is ineffective. Yes it is infuriating. That means we have to stop playing by the old rules! You’re a thought leader — make up some new rules. I’ll pitch in.

@StevenBeschloss Why exactly should we defend a document written by 18th century slave owners? It doesn't even guarantee a right to food and housing, we can and should do better.
@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss Because the Constitution allows for reform. It is relatively easy to overthrow a government. Building a new republic on the ashes of the old is much more difficult. If you can't win an election, what makes you think you can win a revolution?

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss Because people have control over the course of a revolution, elections are a rubber stamp for whomever the parties want in charge.

The constitution allows for only small incremental reforms that don't threaten those in power, you can't build a new system under the old one.

@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss Have you studied revolutions? They eat their own young.
@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss Didn't the constitution you defend come from a revolution?
@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss Technically, no. A lot of historians prefer to call it the War of American Independence rather than a true revolution. Arguably, the US has never seen a revolution, and the UK hasn't had one since the days of Cromwell, with the possible exception of the Glorious Revolution.

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss Lets run with the assumption the American Revolution was not a real revolution then. I disagree with that assessment, but since it was a revolution fought by ordinary people on behalf of the landowner class it was clearly not a democratic revolution anyway. The constitution it produced reflects this.

If that's the case, isn't it time the US had a democratic revolution?

@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss I am aware of this study. But I repeat: If you can't win an election, why do you think you can win a revolution? Are bullets cheaper than ballots? Do you think "the people" will still be in charge when the dust settles?

Do you know how the Iranian Revolution started, just to pick one example? Do not call up that which you cannot put back down.

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss You can't elect a system out of power, that requires a revolution.

Calling up what can't be put back down is exactly the point, destroy the old system and a new one will emerge.

Portugal 1974, Rojava 2012, Ukraine 2014, just a few examples of democratic revolutions, there are scores of others.

@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss When a revolution comes, it is too late to stop it. The avalanche will have already begun, it will be too late for the pebbles to vote. I'm told Lenin once said that anybody who makes plans for after the revolution is a reactionary. Are you a reactionary?

And does Ukraine still have corporations?

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss Ukraine doesn't have a Russian puppet regime anymore, it would have been great if their revolution had been anti-capitalist as well, but that was for them to decide. The 'pebbles' voted as you might say...

Lenin was an authoritarian who made plans for after the revolution he successfully carried out and made himself dictator.

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss If you want to defend the US constitution you should go hang out with the other conservatives and corporate dems. I'm really sick of talking to people who make excuses for the establishment.
@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss Then don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, and have fun hanging out with Trump. If you want to criticize my Constitution, go ahead, and I'll even listen to you. I'm a liberal, and free speech is part of the contract. But if you're going to take up arms against her, we're going to have a problem.

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss
One day there will be a revolution in this country and we'll have a democracy, till then I have nothing to say to someone who won't discuss in good faith and who wants to back a constitution where 400 people control the lives of 400 million.

Have fun living under your oligarchs you fucking conservative, you deserve each other.

As for YOUR constitution, don't expect me to pledge allegiance to it and you won't have a problem.

@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss There can't be an authentic yes if you aren't in a position to say no. But, keep in mind "all enemies, foreign and domestic." God willing, I will not be the first to break faith.

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss But, keep in mind "all enemies, foreign and domestic." God willing, I will not be the first to break faith.

Sounds like an Oathkeeper, lol. Like I said, have fun keeping faith with your oligarchs, I won't. As long as you defend the establishment and its constitution you are denying millions the ability to live under a system of their own choosing and to have an authentic 'yes' under democracy.

@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss don't dirty my name by associating me with those traitors. They are not oath keepers, they are oath breakers.
@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss You are using the same rhetoric, reactionary defense of the established order.
@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss With one crucial difference. I intend to honor my oaths, inshallah.

@DrDanMarshall @StevenBeschloss We are not on the same side. You're a conservative whose pledged to the old order of things and I'm a libertarian socialist that wants to over throw the old system and institute a democracy.

It's my mistake thinking I could or should dialog with you. Before I block you I want you to know, conservatism has no future, you're wasting your time.

@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss Since you have yet to take arms against my Constitution, to the best of my knowledge, I would be glad to continue dialog with you. I would appreciate it if you could be less insulting though. I am a conservative? Perhaps I am. But what is it am I attempting to conserve?
