We just learned our 8 week old #puppy is partially to totally #deaf. We don't have a lot of money but we want to do right by him. Any recommendations for books, videos etc to help us learn how to #communicate & #train him. We are in a rural area so there aren't a lot of in person programs available. Thanks. Btw he is otherwise very healthy & happy. Axl is a sweetie.
@Mari311, you will find lots of advice online and here, I'm sure, but the first thing I would try to remember is that your sweet puppo does NOT know he is deaf! He thinks this is how life is... what a cutie pie!😍
@Mari311 Here's a recent post on Twitter about our little deaf cat. It was a challenge at 1st trying to find all the places he liked to nap in. Eventually, we aligned with each other through a consistent schedule for things like feeding, etc. Dogs are good at following commands by eyesight n gestures. Enjoy Axl every day. Cheers!
@darbytl oh I imagine that was difficult. Cats are crafty when it comes to hiding.
@Mari311 Yes it was and when he was so little we worried he would get under low furniture like fridges. One time when we couldn't find him, we looked everywhere, even the cubby bookcase we had, which, is where we eventually found him tucked away in a basket. We put bells on him after that but when he was older we had to take them off as the rescue dog we acquired we chase him. 😜
@Mari311 Lots of treats and clear consistent hand signals. Not any more difficult than voice commands. He's adorable!
