How Elephants Communicate

How Elephants Communicate

I wish everyone a happy and healthy start into the #NewYear 2026. In my New Year's Eve post, I here report on aspects of #dog #behaviors and its relationships to humans. #Herding #dogs, for example, have the specific ability to #communicate not only with #humans but also with their grazing #livestock. H. Jeong et al. (2025) addressed the "#Genomicevidence for behavioral adaptation of herding dogs" in their study.

The #components needed to give a device the properties of a #computer have become increasingly smaller. M. M. Lassiter et al. (2025) designed the #smallest #microrobot to date, measuring just 200 by 300 μm wide and 50 μm thick. It can #aggregate, #communicate, #sense, and #move via #electricalfields inside #fluids. There are interesting applied options for using such a robot in e.g. medical contexts.

#Mites of the #Histiostomatidae live in #darkness in their #ephemeral #microhabitats. The distinctive deutonymphs are the #dispersal stage, being transported by insects. #Adults, however, live freely and #communicate via complex #olfactorysignals. An important #glandularcomplex is located on the dorsal body side. I participated in a study about the #geranial-rich glandular #secretions (2012).
