This hypocrisy and callousness is truly shameful. We don’t have to live like this.

US politicians enjoy universal healthcare—but vote NO to universal healthcare for workers.

US politicians enjoy living wages—but vote NO to living wages for workers.

US politicians enjoy paid sick leave—but vote NO to paid sick leave for workers.

We need and demand better. Vote OUT anti-worker politicians. Vote in public servants committed to justice above all else.

@QasimRashid Absolutely. We truly need universal healthcare in this nation, and sick leave shouldn't be something you accrue. It should be available if you're sick, pure and simple. It's better to stay home when you're sick. That lessens the spread of infectious diseases, and it makes workers more productive overall.
@goodreedAJ @QasimRashid
Absolutely. Let's call out politicians from both parties here. We need to be specific. There is a reason why democrats are struggling to win against such a horrifically flawed republican party. When presented with a clear opportubity, they are not standing up for the working class. I'm talking about Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. It's time to be real and own this.

@jadarling @QasimRashid

A big part of the problem is that our healthcare system is tied to work, and it shouldn't be. That was a concession that FDR made to get the GOP to pass the New Deal. Healthcare should be a critical service available to all (without fear of financial ruin) no matter their employment status or their wealth or status.

The Democrats tried to start to address this through the ACA as a starting point, not an end point. Their intention was to build on the ACA foundation.

@goodreedAJ @QasimRashid
I agree it's about building a foundation. And part of thst foundation needs to be, when given a choice between supporting Berkshire Hathaway and their shareholders or working class railroad workers, you side with the railroad workers. Every* Time*. That is the political foundation. Otherwise I don't want democrats thinking they deserve the working class vote.
Thanks for your thoughts Ande. Have a great day.
@QasimRashid Politicians aren't servants and voting won't solve this, only a revolution will.
@SocialistStan @QasimRashid Socialist Stan, revolutions invariably lead to improvements? Iran? China? Russia? Nicaragua? The slow pace of change in democracy is better.
@SeattleAl @QasimRashid France 1789, America 1776, Portugal 1974, Ukraine 2014, Ireland 1998, Cuba 1959, Armenia 2018, Nepal 1990, Rojava 2012, Kyrgyzstan 2005, Georgia 2003, East Germany 1989, Poland 1980, Chile 2019, Zapatistas 1994, Puerto Rico 2019? There are dozens of examples of revolutions that resulted in positive change and more freedom.
@SeattleAl @QasimRashid The US is not a democracy, we need a revolution to get it that way before we can talk about democratic change.
@SocialistStan @QasimRashid Stan, get involved with organizations fighting voter suppression and gerrymandering; don't become one of those armchair fantasy spinners.
@SeattleAl @QasimRashid Funny that someone who undoubtedly falls for campaign promises time and time again would call others 'fantasy spinners' lol
@SeattleAl @QasimRashid Not to mention the like twenty examples of revolutions happening in real life cited in this conversation alone.
@QasimRashid you can't vote out fascism. You have to revolt
@QasimRashid We just tried. Too many MAGATs in the mix. We beat many of them, but not enough of them.
@QasimRashid It truly is frustrating to know all that you said is true and that to tell your reps only illicit platitudes.

@QasimRashid "US politicians" aren't the problem. It's US *Republican* politicians.

One out of fifty Democratic senators voted against paid sick leave for railroad workers. 42 Republican senators voted against it.

It's the same for every bill that dares to benefit workers.

@terrymorse @QasimRashid
I can hold anyone who voted against worker rights accountable no matter what brand they happen to be wearing. And I will.
On the original vote to force a resolution, my own beloved men Raskin and Van Hollen, to my chagrin, voted for it. I have mailed them about this already. They may not care but I fucking do.
@QasimRashid You can have all that stuff. Just move to the UK. But be ready to continue to fight to keep them all. Join a Union but don’t just sit there. Join a Union and be active!
@QasimRashid one correction: It’s Republicans (and two turncoat Democrats).
@Lee_in_Iowa @QasimRashid who was the second besides Manchin?
@jag0325 @Lee_in_Iowa @QasimRashid wasn’t it Warnock? Because he’s in Georgia working his butt off for his run-off election? I could be wrong.
@jag0325 @QasimRashid You know, I just figured Sinema would’ve been a problem, but I don’t actually know that.
@QasimRashid its dishonest to keep saying “politicians” when you know is “Republicans “
@vy My guy, who signed it into law? A republican president or a Democrat president?
@QasimRashid You mean the railway workers health care bill that was supported by every Democrat in Congress and filibustered by unanimous Republican caucus? Is that what we are talking about, my guy?
@QasimRashid The answer in that case is that nobody signed it into law because the REPUBLICANS filibustered it. As you know. Not "politicians", but "Republicans".
@QasimRashid So "my guy" are you going to apologize for erroneously (ahem) blaming Democrats for Republican actions or not?
@vy you’re so disingenuous it’s incredible. There were two bills. You know this. You’re wrong. Please stop. Don’t want to have to block but happy to.
