There are people on this platform who want no politics.
We didn’t move over from Twitter to talk about kittens everyday.
We needed a place to carry on our work. To carry on fighting injustice, racism, misogyny, antisemitism and anti-LGBTQ hate. Because these things are important no matter what platform we are using. That was the whole point of our #twittermigration
We don’t have the privilege to be quiet.
@SpockResists I keep trying with Mastodon. But I can't get any traction here :(
@ChristineDantz Just keep engaging Christine. Always remember that every single voice is important. Your voice here is important. Find accounts you want to follow and reply to them. It’s the same as Twitter in that the more you engage, the more traction you will see my friend. 🖖🖖🖐🖖🖐
@SpockResists Thank you. I spent years building my profile on Twitter, just for the #ChefTwit to destroy it :( #DemocracyMatters #NoNazisHere

lt took me 13 yrs to gain 2500 followers & I was proud of that (I only broke 1k at the start of last year!), but like most of us, I’m starting over. 🤷🏼‍♀️

One of my first #Mastodon #toots (on another server) was that I hope it doesn’t take another 13 yrs to gain 2500 followers! 😂

@KaysGramma @ChristineDantz the question is: why focus on followers? Here, focus on interactions. 🥰
@TinCanWin @KaysGramma Because I figure you need multiple people in your feed to see things in your feed ...
@ChristineDantz @TinCanWin @KaysGramma Newbie myself but I've been using the hashtag button to search and following those I recognize or like what they say. My feed is getting a little better. I was only on Twitter the last 3 years and only 2000 followers, so maybe my feed there wasn't great either. 🤷
@Laces @ChristineDantz @KaysGramma the algorithm there messed us up. I'd get lots of notices from a group, then not see their posts ever again unless I hunted for them.
@TinCanWin @Laces @ChristineDantz @KaysGramma I have never focused on followers rather quality of conversation on any platform.
@ChristineDantz @TinCanWin @KaysGramma The more people you follow the more your feed builds. I think I read the threshold is at 200, and then your timeline fills up. It's oddly not the number who follow you that makes for an engaged experience, but the numbers you follow. Best wishes.

@ChristineDantz @TinCanWin @KaysGramma

Follow hashtags of things you are interested in and you can meet people posting about those topics. Plus it helps fill up your timeline with cool posts. Just beware if you follow #CatsOfMastodon your timeline will be like 50% cats. 😂

@sunnywillow @ChristineDantz @TinCanWin @KaysGramma Actually, your timeline will be 50% cats every Saturday no matter what you do.

@sunnywillow @Lee_in_Iowa @ChristineDantz @TinCanWin
Posted 2 days with several hashtags that interest me
Not a single reply or re-toot (except of my own) 😕
Hashtags only work if you have followers that see them

A few suggestions. Make an #introduction tweet and list a bunch of things you are interested in with hashtags ex. #Books #photography whatever you like and then pin it on your timeline so it's the first post people see if they look at your account.

Follow hashtags. Search it and click follow icon. Then others who post with that hashtag will show up on your home timeline.

Follow lots of people. Good luck. 🙂

Pinned posts don’t do much good when you can only see them when using the desktop version 😕. It could explain why the only engagement with that comment is my own re-toot
@Lee_in_Iowa @sunnywillow @ChristineDantz @KaysGramma I'd wager 50% every day, and 75% on Saturday...😸
@TinCanWin @Lee_in_Iowa @sunnywillow @KaysGramma I find nothing wrong with that! Although I'd love some of my animal sanctuaries and zoos from Facebook here ... I have to find #AltYellowstoneNatPar ...
@sunnywillow @ChristineDantz @TinCanWin @KaysGramma I love kitties 😍so that works for me 😁🙂
@sunnywillow That's what is happening to me since the second day of Mastodon 😆
@KaysGramma @ChristineDantz @TinCanWin I wrote a post about the other site 13 years ago and it still holds true. The value is on who you follow, and not the other way around. And you’ll find that if you follow interesting people, interesting people follow you. :)
@TinCanWin @ChristineDantz
Without followers you’re talking to yourself, unless you’re suggesting to just focus on replies, which just promotes other people’s content & not your own
As someone who rejected the follow back parties on the blue bird (& found myself blocked by many of their leaders for referring to them as Twitter’s pyramid scheme), my focus is hardly focus on followers, but it is nice to have a circle of social media “friends”

@KaysGramma @TinCanWin @ChristineDantz

A very big difference here is that you can choose to see toots from most folks no matter where they're hosted. Your immediate circle is your "Home" then "Local." To see what's on the #Fediverse mind, do the world icon.

Best way to get #toots you want is to follow #hashtags you want to see more of. Also, include hashtags in your profile and you're golden.

@ChristineDantz @MKSinSA @KaysGramma also, use one of the apps versus the mastodon official app. Tooot and Tusky are good for Android. Not sure for iOS.

@TinCanWin @ChristineDantz @KaysGramma

I view this place as promoting conversation and interaction, more than promoting one's own content without regard for context. I'm sure as people grow or import (?) followers, people will promote their ideas, work, etc. But initially, I think its strength are the interactions.

@SparkleTea @ChristineDantz @KaysGramma exactly! It is listening and engaging, not trumpeting.
