If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between a seal and a sea lion then HAVE I GOT THE CHART FOR YOU.
@orci Been looking for this my whole life
@orci - ohmygosh yoga pose yes!
@orci Sea lions also need to haul out to sleep; seals can sleep in the water.
@orci I thought it was a simple matter of chemistry? One of them has an extra ion.
@Eutropia This is a primo toot 😆
@orci I don't mind most marine mammals, but sea lions? I could do without sea lions....
@stevefoerster They are kinda loud and stinky. But they can’t help it!
@stevefoerster Would you mind showing me evidence of any negative thing any sea lion has ever done to you?
@stevefoerster @orci
I live on a beach where sea lions come to raise their pups and can report that they're wonderful animals. There's often one or more lying on the beach, flipping sand over itelf. As long as you respect their space, they're good neighbours.

Why are you all quoting a 2014 comic? So funny.
@orci @stevefoerster Can be a bad day when a 600 pound sea lion flops itself onto a lightly built dock or a small boat tied to it, but sea lions gathering around human stuff like seagulls is something we need to think about.
@orci Nice! Time to rewatch Chuck Jones’ classic The White Seal 😁
@SuprmomcatCathy I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t remember that one. Time to Google!
@orci might have been before your time, 1970-something, Narrated by Roddy McDowell 😁
@orci We all know that sealions are what you get when you electrocute seals.

@orci Also:

Asks thoughtful and constructive questions / Communicates in bad faith, trying to make every discussion about them

@orci
What a great chart! But look at those faces -- omg, don't you just want to take them home.
@orci «tsaa» and «taan» in Lingít language, here on the Pacific Ocean. Think the whiskers might be different too. #IndigenousLanguage
@orci I actually have wondered about that. Thank you for posting this.
@orci Also, seals are curious and inquisitive. Sea lions really just want to have a civil debate and wonder if you have any evidence for the differences between seals and sea lions, and point out that you haven't mentioned the tails, which after all are the primary method of propulsion and should be an important point of discussion.
@orci The post I didn’t think I’d ever see but really wanted. 🥰
@orci Thx 😍😍😍😍
@orci Softly grunting vs loudly barking, banana posing vs yoga posing. Love these!
@orci I feel dumb for thinking seal and sea lion were two names for the same animal. XD But hey, first day on new app and I'm already learning interesting things. :D
@orci seal makes better music than a sea lion! ☝️
@orci I started swimming in the ocean recently. (I swim about 30 minutes a day). Sometimes I see one of these guys in the water, but not close enough to tell which is which.
@orci informative, concise, and clear. That made my Wednesday.
@orci @magdalenahai Great infographic! Sea lions also use their flippers to propel themselves forward and their tail to steer while seals use their tail to propel and flippers to steer. They are fascinating creatures!
@orci Evolution works in wonderous ways… but sort of the same outcome :) Amazing…

@orci There's another difference:

@orci Thanks! Always assumed that they are more or less the same but one is positively charged.
@orci brilliant !! 👏🏻👏🏻. Please also do one for shrew / vole ?!

@orci But what about sea lions and seahorses?

How can I identify which is which?

@orci WAIT! So does this mean a Fur Seal is actually a SEA LION?! What a fraud!
@orci I’m quite happy eating either!
@orci thank you. Good information
@orci Also seals mind their own damn business.
@orci A sea lion is just a seal that has lost one or more electrons.
@orci Included the family names 👍
@orci thank you.
Not sure if I'll remember if I meet one out on a walk though.
Will they be insulted?
@orci
Honestly we were just discussing this!🙏♥️🙏
@orci who is the author of this infographics? It is utterly funny! Im living it
@orci
Doesn't one of them eat the other?
@orci Thanks! Good to know. Always wondered about that.
@orci we have good numbers of both here on Kangaroo Island.
@orci this has my sea lion of approval
@orci And of course Seal ion, which always has a positive charge.
