I follow both #infosec and #woodworking related hashtags, so when someone excitedly posts that they've upgraded their router it's always a bit of a guessing game until I get to the hashtags at the bottom.
@ojensen How do you follow hashtags?

@richardmcp when you search for a hashtag, at the top right of the results there will be a follow button.

Some apps don't have it, but the web interface should show it for you.

@ojensen

basement(config)# router bosch 1
basement(config-router)# speed 1500
basement(config-router)# bit chamfer 0.25
basement(config-router)# no shut
%MOTOR-3-UPDOWN: Router Bosch/1, changed state to up
%RPM-5-UPDOWN: Router Bosch/1, speed stable at 1500RPM

@azonenberg there are few things I've read here in the fediverse that have terrified me as much as this toot.

@azonenberg @ojensen

Woodworking pedant coming in to ruin the otherwise excellent joke:

15,000 RPMs is more accurate. 1,500 is more of a drilling speed. Your typical variable speed router runs between 23,000 & 10,000 RPMs. The good news? On Masto, we have an edit button!

@ojensen Here are before and after shots when I upgraded my #router ~5 years ago. Had to dig deep in my photo hoard for this.
@jimp beautifully done! 😍

@jimp I've actually been looking into doing something very similar, making a little sign for my son's playhouse (see https://infosec.exchange/@ojensen/109289190159068781).

But how do you start the toolpath? If I just use the router straight up, it jumps all over the place. If I use the plunger thing, it's hard to control freehand.

Attached: 2 images Infosec is cool and all, but I'd like to share a fun non-infosec project I've been working on! So, once upon a time I had a beautiful little A-frame shed in my yard. And then one day a tree said "absolutely not". So, here's a speedrun of the repair process!

Infosec Exchange
@ojensen Usually just plunging and care with the piece clamped down well. I have a set of letter templates (the cleaner lettering from the second image) which make it much easier. They come with the letters, a guide, and some other relevant bits that make it pretty simple. Freehand is sloppy no matter what I do, but with tons of practice could probably be better. Depending on what it is, sometimes sloppy freehand would be fitting.
@jimp thanks! I had no idea letter templates were a thing, I'll check them out :)
@ojensen I'm pretty sure this is the set I have, but it's been a few years and it's buried in the shed at the moment so I can't easily confirm: https://a.co/d/cxhLqoO
@ojensen I have my new Ryobi router next to my AmpliFi mesh router. Some new bits to check out as well. I have some posts to dig into to practice with. #woodworking #networking
@ojensen Break out the CNC mills and you can be a triple threat
@edr that's a little out of my budget for the time being :)
@ojensen I excitedly posted on twitter once that I was getting a really good deal on a router on craigslist and one of my friends said that I needed to be really careful because someone might have installed malware on it and it took both of us a few more back and forths to figure out the problem
@mtrkdjoyce I had some similar confusion in conversations with my wife regarding what I apparently failed to specify was a network switch.
@ojensen i can't yet follow a hashtag. Is that a limitation of my client?

@KIT_strong_WING seems likely. For example, Tusky doesn't seem to be able to do it yet, but the web interface supports it.

Same with editing posts.

@ojensen @hacks4pancakes I have this issue at work, being a network engineer working in a makerspace.
@ojensen What kind of woodworking do you enjoy? I dabble in a variety, but lean a bit towards turning.
@dopheide mostly I enjoy working with hand-tools, doing rough joinery, that kind of thing :)
@ojensen Nice. I haven't gone too far down that path, I can't seem to get a hand planer to work to save my life. But I have fallen in love with Japanese pull saws.

@dopheide interestingly, a lot of the department store hand planers are pretty garbage (lookin' at you, Kobalt).

But you can often find the vintage Stanley / Bailey ones at estate sales or on eBay, and they are an absolute joy to use. This one is my favorite of my collection, at one point owned by some guy named Burk. Whoever he was, he lives on in my workshop :)

@ojensen Trying out a great new router. It's much faster than the old one and the black and chrome retro look is nice too. (Obscure company name) really builds quality products. 😀 #infosec or #woodworking
