When I turned 70, I thought, “Well, that’s it. I’ve had a great career, but it’s winding down.”
Boy, was I wrong. I found social media, and then a second wind at my sails in my 70s! I made my Broadway debut at 78, and I’ll make my London debut at 85.
Life is truly wonderful and magical.

@georgetakei so much media leads us to believe that our lives are somehow over when we turn 30/40. I always tell people the "life checklist" is bullshit, but even I have moments where I need reminding. It's wonderful to see someone continuing to do what they love.

@georgetakei Life is for living…..and you are doing just that. The notion that life and work ends when a government - any government - deems that you’re “retired” is utterly nuts. It has removed untold mountains of talent & experience from society just to feed a for-profit “retirement community” (“community” ???) industry. And as a result we’re all the worse off for it.

@georgetakei Congratulations, Uncle George! We talked about you at Thanksgiving dinner - my dad is reading a book about young Japanese -American men who worked for military intelligence. We talked about the internment camps and I mentioned you and your family. My dad said you were one of the young men in the book. You are an amazing person!!!!

@georgetakei I always thought of any year after age 80 as a "bonus year". But once you're in your 80s does 90 become the new 80? I have a 92 year old in-law still working as a baliff at the court house.

I've stood by helplessly so many times watching them transition from a life of leisurely ease into a busy-ness like they never imagined, waxing nostalgic for even just a single three hour meeting where they could doodle mindlessly or catch some z's
