There are anti lockdown protests happening in many city's across #China including:
#Beijing #Shanghai #Guangzhou #Shengzhen #Wuhan #Urumqi #Zhengzhou, and other.
I don't expect them to become anywhere near close to regime toppling. However one can be sure that the Beijing government will know them. Which may lead to a change in policy down the road. Thank you to everyone on the streets. What your doing may make a difference in a few months time.
Some 🐦 Site accounts that with videos: @TGTM_Official @jenniferzeng97 @badiucao @badiucao
Protest triggers:
#Foxconn lockdown, workers not paid and factory breakout.
#Urumqi fire in locked down building killing people. Some say 200.
#worldcup on TV, Chinese can see the rest of the world with no lock downs.
Two years of lock downs damaging peoples lives and livelihoods.
@eben
Add badly organized lockdowns in cities such aus Shanghai, Guangzhou where people are not completely isolated from the world and the world wide web.
These lockdowns exposed the corruption and ineptitude of the #CCP. And the arbitrary nature of many repressive methods within #China.
Will the people overthrow the regime? It would be massive for world politics and #BRICS.

I definitely agree on adding badly organized lockdowns.

Would be really big if they overthrow the #CCP. However at this stage I feel the chances are very low. Protests are happening in many places, yes. However the numbers of people participating so far are small.
The King has had enough time to get rid of anyone with power who disagrees with his direction for China.
We can expect lots of people to get visitations from the police in the coming days after the streets are cleared.

Also what is happening in #xinjiang needs its own local context as explained very well here: 🐦 🔗 https://twitter.com/ReasonablyRagin/status/1596501114589179916

@eben This is so much bigger than the protests of June 1989. This could be the turning moment for #China, as the #CCP can't kill all of these protestors by sending the PLA after them.
Go, brave people of China, go and get rid of the rule of Xi Jinping!
@bikejourno I hope your right 💪💪 . If you are, I think it will take some time.
For my own tiny example living in a small town in Guangxi province as I write this. People here are not yet affected and are not yet aware of these protests. Also outside of the cities in China there have not been many lockdowns and life in the fields has not changed much from 2019 until now. This is very much an urban event for city people. However I'm in support of it spreading.
I find my self in agreement with this: "Again, don’t get carried away here folks. The *only* way this becomes a bigger thing is if Party insiders opposed to Xi decide to use it as a tool to further their own agenda (a palace coup) & even then, given Xi’s grip on the Party/levers of power, that is v unlikely to succeed." 🐦 🔗 https://twitter.com/antd/status/1596832723251122177

"Important point - the CCP's major takeaway following their review of the USSR's collapse was that the Soviets should have used force to end unrest and that relaxing control was a mistake. Tiananmen was a reflection of that. The Party's view of these events has not changed." 🐦 🔗 https://twitter.com/BDHerzinger/status/1596760353832022016

How many #Tiananmen massacres can the #CCP afford, I dare to ask? Putin's coalition against the post Cold War World order is looking more and more fragile: #Russia is failing in its war in Ukraine, #Iran fails to silence protests and large scale protests are starting in #China now.
What's left, #Belarus and #NorthKorea? That's some great friends. No appeal with that Pariah coalition.

@bikejourno

I really hope your right.

@bikejourno

#Beijing #SitongBridge (where the banner protest was done last month) & Beijing #tiananmen Square have seen protests.
Not just calling for an end to lockdowns but, for freedom and democracy ~
