Right now, my top pet peeve about Mastodon is people are still cross-posting content from the #birdsite.

I get it, we also miss it. But it's dead, and Elmo killed it. So let's create conversation here, rather than constantly looking back like some sort of technological Lot.

@bgluckman agreed, people need to cut the cord
@bgluckman I agree. I really, really don't like seeing links here to the other site.
@bgluckman "technological Lot" 😂 🤣
@bgluckman
Yeah, kind of defies the point in leaving Twitter if my feed on here is full of Twitter links.

@bgluckman I was using https://crossposter.masto.donte.com.br/user to cross post from twitter to here. But without RT or Quote. And only my own replies to my own tweets to preserve threads. And inserting CW:

But I've just turned it off because in the last day or so, I've wanted to promote something on Twitter without posting here. And frankly my posts on Twitter have almost stopped. They never used to get much engagement, and now it's none.

Mastodon Twitter Crossposter

@bgluckman Lot’s wife, but I hear you. Part of the challenge is that a lot of what I (and others I assume) went to TBS for was *news* and quite a bit is still being shared there.
@MikeTRose @bgluckman
I sort of agree, but if there's an article being linked to in the tweet, then just toot the darn link here.
And please take a second to look at the profile of the person you're RTing to see if they've got a Mastodon handle listed.
I've found at least 3 so far who posted the same thing here as there that should have been boosted, no RT needed.
@bgluckman Welcome! I am a crazy crochet lady who accepts all who are willing to give an old redhead a chance.
@bgluckman look forward, not behind.

@bgluckman ... I am looking at what is happening over there as a perpetual Highway accident that keeps on happening.

You KNOW you shouldn't be looking... but you just can't help yourself.

You WANT to see the carnage.

@bgluckman Same, let's move on from it.
@amay206 @bgluckman I think it’s okay to look, but not touch. 😃
@bgluckman agreed. Let's make this a clean break, a completely new start. The discourse here on Mastodon is infinitely better, so let's help it continue to flourish without the dead weight of the albatross we left behind.
@bgluckman I was just there. The hate tonight is overwhelming. People who I don’t follow flooding my page.
@bgluckman I go there to post stuff from here, and then only to try to get others to quit.
@bgluckman In general, about opinion pieces, I agree. However, until I gain more mastery of this place, I find info about Ukraine cross-posted, invaluable. But I understand the sentiment. The bird is a Nazi cesspool.
@bgluckman I was there 13 years. It got me through the worst pandemic lockdowns here in Canada than most places in North America . The 7 stages of grief still apply to Twitter.
@bgluckman @donmelton It has been of great benefit to my mental state to put a filter rule in my mastodon account for “Twitter”, “twitter.com”, “Elon”, and “Musk”. Means I sometimes see gaps of multiple posts in my timeline, but I know I’m most likely better off not seeing them.
@brian @donmelton I'm still interested in Musk and Twitter from the perspective of its potential impact on democracy, plus also the ongoing shit show that is Tesla. I don't necessarily need to mourn the site, and I certainly don't need cross posts.
@bgluckman I've also been wondering about the (re)posting I've seen from there. It seems strange. There is so much here, why do that?
@bgluckman agreed! The only reason I still have the bird site there is to see if any more of my old friends are switching to mastodon…
@bgluckman do consider setting up a Filter to hide "RT @" and other words you see used by cross-posters.
Will make your timeline a much nicer place.
Might encourage cross-posters to tailor their roots and engage rather than just fire-off content into here that made :birdsite: the hell it is
@bgluckman couldn't agree with you more!
@bgluckman I don’t like it either. Especially replies because you can’t see what they’re replying to.

@bgluckman

I felt the same way when ppl were sharing screenshots of TFG from TS on the #birdsite. It's like he was never banned.

@bgluckman exactly!! This is Mastodon, not Twitter!!
@bgluckman -
Unfortunately, Twitter *IS* currently the only place to read some of my favorite authorities like Michael McFaul and Laurence Tribe.
BUT I use quotes and screen grabs, rather than links to Twitter, when I post here.
@bgluckman Filter it out of your TL. The problem I noticed over there was people telling other people what to post/not to post. It’s here too, but not so much. I tolerate it because I can cruise by it.
@bgluckman @socprof I agree with this. I stopped cross posting and realized I don’t get ppl replying or @-ing for a long time. Makes me think they’re on Twitter most of the time
