Hendrix considered Sister Rosetta Tharpe his favorite guitarist. And it's easy to see why. She was an indisputable badass, predating Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Les Paul by a good two decades. And without her, we wouldn't have rock and roll as we know it. She was almost forgotten by history, but thankfully there are numerous YouTube clips available of this stunning innovator in action!

@edwardchampion
If Chuck Berry was the godfather of rock, she is undoubtedly the godmother.
@tofugolem @edwardchampion both Little Richard and Johnny Cash stated her as their greatest influence and Chuck Berry said his career was just "One Long Rosetta impersonation". So, she was definitely first :)
@edwardchampion omg “let’s do that again”
@edwardchampion
I love her entrance here - in Manchester, apparently.

@edwardchampion Rosetta really rocked. She deserves a lot more recognition, if she was a male she would have been a household name.
@edwardchampion
Love that!
Thx for the recommendation.
