Wow! People are garbage.

That said, take pleasure in the power you hold over these people. They feel so threatened by you just existing on a social media platform that they need to go out of their way call you names. You’re living rent free in their heads.

@tomcoates at least some of those hosts (I only skimmed a few) are on the blocklist at mastodon.social - you should ask your server admin to add them too. I may well add a bunch to my server as well.

@tomcoates this blows. one of the first things I did after setting up my personal instance was import another's blocklist and what you've got is mostly coming from 6 instances that most people have already blocked.

The process itself sucked because, for baseline sanity, I shouldn't have had to manually, by hand, recreate all those blocks! I should *easily* be able to leverage everyone else's hard work, and also contribute

We cannot expect members to have to figure this out by themselves.

We need to solve this now. It is becoming more and more shameful to be associated with Mastodon.

If you run a server, manage your blocklist or be defederated. It is not a fun hobby, it is not a tech problem, it is a commitment to a duty of care. Deal with it or shut down.

@tomcoates Jesus Christ, this is fucking awful. I'm so sorry that you had to deal with that. You deserve way better.

It's no secret that there's some really, really fucked up parts of the fediverse that instance admins should block by default. Unfortunately, some admins are so lax about it that they do nothing, which causes problems for their local users and anyone federating with them that aren't already blocking shitty instances.

I'm here to let you know that the experience on the fediverse can in fact be positive, even wonderful, but stuff like this can really sour the experience. The most vile parts can churn out some truly gut-churning stuff.

Again, I'm sorry that you got a taste of that part of the network. It fucking sucks.
