This literature clock is the most wonderful thing I’ve seen in a long time. Checking the time becomes a moment of pure joy 😍

Literature Clock

@Si I might just quit #SocialMedia and check this #clock compulsively instead.
@Si Whoa, this is so cool.
@Si
talk about tech transformation....wonderful!

@Si This is super fun!

My first instinct was to stay up all night checking the time every minute to find out when nothing ever happens, but it turns out you can just look through the source. By file count there are 411 missing minutes in the day!

The source is also useful if you want to examine or improve the demographics of whose work is considered "literature".

@asparagi I can see this becoming my new mission - find the 411 missing minutes in literature. Either that or I’m going to have to write a bestseller that includes them 🤷‍♂️
@Si You can call it "The 411 Missing Minutes"! Or however many you are down to after literature review.
@Si I could not possibly love this more. 🙏
@Si Love this! Thanks for linking.
@Si This is so great!!!! Thanks for the link!
@Si this is amazing 😮 a thing of beauty
@Si That is an absolute delight!
@Si love it too. Thx for showing it to me. Best way to check the time
@Si me for the rest of the day. Brilliant!
@Si
This is so cool 😍
@Si comes with a lot of Bridget Jones (not that I mind)
@TanteRudy I’m going to start a little side project to try and fill in the missing 411 minutes. I just have to find the right books!

@Si
Is it your project or some open-whatever, where you can add the missing minutes?

Such a cool idea!

@TanteRudy I would *love* to have thought of something so wonderful! Here’s the origin and the source that can be contributed to

https://github.com/JohannesNE/literature-clock/blob/master/litclock_annotated.csv

@Si
Impressive list.
I reckon I won't be able to read times in books anymore without the need to check if the quote is already there. Would love to contribute a tiny bit as well 🙂
@TanteRudy 100% same! Whenever I see a time in a book now I’ll be making a note to see if I can fill in one of the 411 gaps!
@Si this is wonderful!
But now I am obsessively refreshing that page every minute.
@Si This is simply wonderful. Clearly it's destined to be running on a Pi so it's always available......
@Si OMG my new favorite spot on the interweb. I got two Murakamis in two minutes.
@Si this is bloody brilliant. :-)
@Si Yes! A literature equivalent to 'The Clock", which was a 24-hour video installation created from thousands of clips of clocks, watches and other references to time from film and television.

Christian Marclay: The Clock

Take an epic journey through cinematic history in the award-winning 24-hour video installation.

@geraldew oh wow! I have never heard of that, amazing!

@Si the literature clock is genius

I made something like it, except exactly the opposite in terms of beauty, it's QR codes

QR Clock - An Experiment By Alan W. Smith

A clock, but it's a QR Code. Just to see what it looks like

@TheIdOfAlan this is strangely mesmerising to watch, and I love the result when the QR code is scanned 👌
@Si hehehe. I felt like it was a moral imperative
@Si I emphatically co-sign this take.

@Si This is amazing! I keep checking the time!

#EnglishTeacher #TeamEnglish

@Si awesome. Thnx for the link.👍
@Si and they say social media is a waste of time……. 😂😬
@Si That's utterly delightful and addictive!
@Si this is so wonderful!

@Si Oh My God! I love it!!!😂😂❤❤
@Si this is wonderful
@Si that’s amazing. Thanks for sharing.
@Si you can just keep checking it. Delicious
@Si This is pure gold! Thank you for the link! Now I have a new addiction.

@Si “When the clock said ten minutes to five, she began to listen, and a few moments later, punctually as always, she heard the tires on the gravel outside, and the car door slamming, the footsteps passing the window, the key turning in the lock. She laid aside her sewing, stood up, and went forward to kiss him as he came in.”
- Lamb to the Slaughter, Roald Dahl

Amazing! I want to pin your post

@Si This is soooooo neat!!!! I have so many questions about it! Do they ever repeat? Does it matter if it’s AM or PM? Is there specific criteria for the source material? Who manages it? And most importantly - can it go on forever?!! 😍 I’m now going to go in search of some answers. 🙂

@Belinda no repeats, @kernforce linked to a command line version, which in turn links to the original source code. Take a look at the source and there’s a CSV file with all the entries from 00:00 to 23:59 😍

https://github.com/JohannesNE/literature-clock/blob/master/litclock_annotated.csv

@Si this is really awesome! Only to come up with the idea!
@Si omg!!! It’s like The Clock!!!
