#DailyRetroGame 7: Parasol Stars (1991)

An oft-forgotten entry in the Bubble Bobble Saga, Parasol Stars featured two cute humans using umbrellas to duff up enemies across single-screen platform levels.

It still feels like an arcade game – which makes it surprising it never was one. But it’s well worth checking out if you’ve liked other adventures featuring Bub(by) and Bob(by).

Play it on: PC Engine or Amiga.

Parasol Stars - The Story of Bubble Bobble III - Versions Comparison (HD 60 FPS)

@craiggrannell it's my go-to game on pc-engine!
@c64tone It’s fab. I just wish there was an infinite lives cheat, because the 8yo tends to prefer games she can just play through.
@c64tone @craiggrannell It's such a wonderful platformer and my go-to on PC-Engine, too. Does the PC Engine have all the worlds which are present in some of the home computer versions, though? I seem to recall there being some disparity.
@GrahamGoring @c64tone I honestly don’t know. I’m too terrible at the game to get far enough in. (Bubble Bobble, on the other hand…)
@craiggrannell @GrahamGoring ahhhhhh Bubble Bobble! I'm actually not that good at BB (high score only about 1m) but I had a weird obsession over it!
First exposed to it with the great C64 port.
Own it in most formats including an original Japanese JAMMA board.

@GrahamGoring @c64tone I played the C64 release to death. An impressive port, given the single load. It misses some of the nuances but gets most stuff right.

Nice on the board. I think it there was an original cab, it’s the one I’d want to own. I never realised there wasn’t a specific one for the game.
