I finished #starwars #andor It’s amazing at world building, and it makes Star Wars feel like a living world again. But I found myself doing something else while it played. It couldn’t grip me. I can see the stakes, but mostly I found it sort of boring.
I’ll probably still watch the next season if there is one, because it’s Star Wars, and because there are some interesting parts to it, but I’m not loving it.
@thelinuxEXP Don't you have issues accessing the Disney+ website from Linux? I tried for a few months with the latest Firefox version and it was a nightmare: website hardly worked, and videos ended up not even playing at all. It was so annoying I cancelled my subscription - not a big fan of what they had anyway...
@eb303 I never tried it! I never watch shows on a computer, only on a TV!
@thelinuxEXP Did you just say "I want to torture myself with pornography without sexuality content"?
@thelinuxEXP I did like it. Is more real, dark and raw than other SW content.
@marcelcosta I didn’t hate it, and I really loved Rogue One, but this is either too long, or not well paced enough.
@thelinuxEXP the series was really up and down for me. One episode I'd love, the next I'd feel indifferent to. I'll definitely watch the next series though.
@LukeAddisonUK Exactly! There’s a part in the middle where I just couldn’t pay attention (the prison part).

@thelinuxEXP others I've spoken to have felt the same.

I think I just like to see the Rebels kicking ass all the time. There's too much oppression without much hope in real life.

@thelinuxEXP I didn't find it compelling at all as well I'm afraid. Couldn't bear myself to watch it past 2nd episode... not sure why?!?!
@thelinuxEXP "The man who sees everything is more blessed than cursed"
@thelinuxEXP same! I worked lots on my #linux #server while watching, installed #mastodon and a few other things.
I think our attention span is in general shorter then it was. I can't watch anything longer then 30min without checking my phone....
@wildbird @thelinuxEXP no, it's just not good enough. Watch Severance or The Wild Lotus and you won't be doing other things, I suggest.
@thelinuxEXP interesting, i’m usually a guy who has issues focusing on dialogue-heavy stories but I was glued to each episode. My favorite Disney+ show by far, and I wasn’t even the biggest fan of Rogue One. But I also did not watch Book of Boba and Obi-wan so i’m not as Star Wars fatigued as others seem to be.
@suarez I enjoyed the politics and manipulation that lead to the rebellion, these were cool. Mostly, it’s the scenes where Andor appears that just didn’t work for me 😅
@thelinuxEXP @suarez Even though I thoroughly disagree with your sentiment on the show, I completely agree with your take that the pacing was not engaging. To be honest, my hate boner for facists kept me going through the show. And the spycraft.
@thelinuxEXP watched the 1st episode. We haven't moved on dramatically since 1977, it's just repeating same old tropes, even if very slick and professional now. I found myself looking at my phone. It's a 'no' from me.

@guyjames @thelinuxEXP
#andor is so far beyond where we were in 1977 thematically, it's difficult to explain, especially if you only watched the first episode.

Watching this show feels like reading a good novel. I'm not sure how one could evaluate the premise, much less the themes, having only read 1/3 of the opening chapter.

@hoos30 @thelinuxEXP you're right, but for me it felt very predictable. I actually guessed several things that happened before they did, because I've seen this kind of thing many times before. So I was not prepared to give the rest of it a chance, sorry, especially when there are so many great series out there.
@thelinuxEXP @guyjames
If you have good media literacy you should be able to guess the general direction of the opening chapter of any story; it's not doing random things and it does have the basic job introducing you to the characters and setting. Beyond the start, it steers well away from the typical Star Wars story, so I doubt your prediction streak would continue.

@guyjames @thelinuxEXP
Like a few other very dense and detailed "prestige" TV programs, it is not a "folding laundry" show where you can do other things while watching it. It demands your attention.

The best illustration from the first ep is the boss of the corporate security guy who specifically instructs him *not* to investigate the murder of the two guards. If you can appreciate *why* he told him that then you're likely to enjoy the rest of the show #andor.

@hoos30 @guyjames I tried to, but after the raid on the imperial base, I just started tuning out involuntarily.
@thelinuxEXP @guyjames That's cool. No show or book is going to hit everyone the same way. I'd say you gave it a fair shot.
@thelinuxEXP I have been bored with all the Star Wars TV series. So much so that I gave up on the franchise and stopped watching anything they release. You comment about Andor makes me happy I saved time by not watching it. Bye bye Star Wars.
@thelinuxEXP I’m ruthless, there is just so much good stuff out there, I’d rather rewatch the wire, or generation kill, or you know, anything that is actually capable of holding my attention. Only if multiple people tell me something like “it really comes alive in episode five” or similar will I endure.
@thelinuxEXP Yeah, I would say Andor was up there with Mandolorian (mainly the tech and VX used behind the scenes) and Obiwan, it great they are keeping the Star Wars legacy alive! I hope they don’t ho down hill and mass produce them like they did will all the Marvel series (She-Hulk!?!)
