This one had some problems when I got it
But the fix was easy. I replaced the ROM chips with EPROMs and it booted up flawlessly
@martin well done. Now set the video to a regular 4:3, and come to us to choose a game to play or a demo to watch 😉 http://plus4world.powweb.com/toplist
Top List - Plus/4 World

@Luca_FIRE Yeah, that was the video capture card that insisted on stretching the video to 16:9. Tried photographing the 1084 monitor, but that didn't really work out
@martin I wanted it also, but the cool kids at school told me to get a C64. 😎
@daputz It's a neat little machine. But I didn't really appreciate it at that time. In my eyes my parents had made a terrible mistake. Everybody had a C64. How was I supposed to get any software? A year or two later I finally got my C64
@martin @daputz
To be honest, I think they did make a terrible mistake 😅
The C64 was still better than than the Plus4 despite being older.
I had an Oric-1 which was also a terrible mistake but it was the best we could afford.
One good thing about not having much software was the incentive to make my own. Turned out I really loved to code!

@6502Nerd @martin @daputz

Given what some folks have done with both the plus 4 and the oric...

They were, and still are, very cool machines.

Defence force on oric, bauknecht on plus four...

@Truck @martin @daputz
That's very true and I wouldn't change my own history as the Oric-1 is where it all started for me. I actually still own my Oric-1 that my dad bought me in 1983 and I still program it!🤓🤗👍🏽
@Truck @martin @daputz oh just to add, yup totally amazing what folks like Defence Force and the sadly gone Twilighte did on Oric. If titles like Oricium and Stormlord would have been available for my little machine back in the early 80s, the Oric story might have been very different!

@6502Nerd @martin @daputz

RIP Twilighte...

I still owe you that demo.

(Twilighte gave me my Oric.)

@Truck @martin @daputz
Oh wow I never got to meet him, utterly brilliant in eeking out the best from the Oric. Very sad but his memory and contribution continues, I'm very thankful 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@martin I'm guessing what makes it "Plus" is having four arrow keys instead of two.
@martin @Wintermute_BBS I love the design. I "only" have an upgraded C16, but the Plus/4 is definitely a machine I would love to own, simply for Ira Valensky's design.
@root42 @martin @Wintermute_BBS I picked one up because I had a C16 and I love the Plus 4's design.
@martin I always wanted one of these as a kid, because of the nicer keys than the 64 and the fact that it had a built-in machine-code monitor.
@martin Was this before Commodore 64 and Vic 20?
@Lyceum I got it before the Commodore 64. And I never had a VIC 20
@martin Thanks for the information!
