today i got to see the garden of a person a couple neighborhoods over from me.

i love visiting other peoples' gardens! this is the primary way that i learn.

here's what i saw:
1. moloka'i purple #SweetPotato as ground cover
2. #achiote
3. young #breadfruit
4. very robust #pumpkin

cont'd..

#TropicalAg #tropical #garden #plants

more of what i saw:

1. #mamaki plant
2. large green #bele
3. maybe a young #jackfruit (or related)
4. healthy patch of #OkinawaSpinach (aka #GynuraBicolor), green variety

last one: bishop's crown hot #pepper.

the person's lot was similar to ours in that it was mostly rock, but it did look like part of it had been flattened. also they had definitely brought in "good soil" and/or mulch. everything b/w the plants was very well-trimmed. all these things seemed to allow the plants to do well, even in full sun.

...ok one more because it's too pretty: a gorgeous #heliconia ^-^

they had this lovely heliconia patch in what looked like part of a collapsed lava tube. i bet the water collects in there. the heliconia seemed to love it. so pretty!

@mk30 I use purple sweet potato as cover in New Orleans as well. It’s wonderful! I barely touch it, it’s completely edible, and pretty easy to remove if necessary.

I’m going to try it in the food forest next, though it’s a little bit colder up there so I’m not sure how it will do in the winter
