Welcome to America, where “pro-life Republicans” spout hateful rhetoric and advance legislation that leads to senseless acts of violence against the LGBTQ community.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

@rbreich It's the "Some Lives Matter" movement, essentially.
@rbreich It's almost as if being "pro-life" isn't really about protecting life at all. Like it's really all about controlling people, or something.

@rbreich
No it does not have to be this way.

I find hate speech the disease of the age.

@rbreich Wrap it in a “US Politics” content wrapper and more people (including me) will boost it!
@rbreich Yeah. I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self to aim for Canada for immigration instead of the U.S. I became a citizen last year and I definitely have buyer's remorse.
@merryjest @rbreich if it helps, Canada is pretty messed up too
a lot of liberals in the US see Canada as just better US but that's just the front they put forward, they're not actually that much more progressive
they have stricter gun control but that's just as likely to gatekeep self defense from marginalized people as it is to stop oppressors from being violent

@raphaelmorgan @rbreich

I have several friends that live in Canada. The situation is a lot more tolerable there than here.

@rbreich --> If #Democrats learn how to use Republican messaging methods (but for the good), they would attack Republicans 24/7, 365 days a year, blaming them for every single mass shooting in America. Let Republicans spend all their time crying "2nd Amendment!!!" while Democrats keep saying: "Your politics murders people".

cc @jentaub

@IdoAmir @rbreich @jentaub Preach! I always thought that Republicans are horrible at governing--and Democrats are horrible at messaging. Unfortunately, the messaging is the way to power.

@IdoAmir @rbreich @jentaub

Well before the midterm elections, I widely circulated an email to many important national Democrats urging five lines of action, one of them being to go after Right Wing Republicans for being soft on gun crimes, soft on mass shootings, soft on Right Wing militias, and so forth. I saw no evidence that anyone at all paid any attention to any of my ideas.

@tribeofjesse @rbreich @jentaub But the message should be harsher: Republicans are not "soft" on anything: Republicans are INTENTIONALLY ENABLING the murder of Americans, they are doing it for profit & power, and they are lying about it to voters.

Democratic messaging typically: Telling a long, confusing truth.

Republican messaging typically: Telling short, easy to understand lies.

And that must change.

Here's a line I kept repeating before the midterms:

Republicans are killing Americans.

@IdoAmir @rbreich @jentaub for that to happen, Democrats would need to have the same level of access and support from mass media that Republicans enjoy. That’s not to say they can’t do better—they can do miles better—but the casual way Republicans can go on the attack, without being contradicted or cut off, isn’t something easily matched.

@Devilstower @rbreich @jentaub Indeed, Republicans have a structural advantage in the shape Fox "News", Facebook, and every other media outlet (e.g. right wing podcasts), all reinforcing this closed loop of right wing propaganda for power & money.

But that's part of the same problem: Dems are not good at using (or creating) tools to convey a message effectively.

I do insist though, Dems main problem is MESSAGE & DELIVERY. Not lack of media tools.

Want proof? Barack Obama. Josh Shapiro.

@rbreich Ten year olds are forced to have babies by rape, but then get no healthcare. Welcome to America!
@rbreich please stop calling them pro life. It gives them a faux moral box to stand on. They are forced birthers
@theperch @rbreich Yeah, "pro-life" isn't quite the right term.
@theperch @rbreich it was in quotes for a reason, pointing out the irony that they call themselves that
"people who like to control bodies led to violence against people" doesn't really point out much hypocrisy
@raphaelmorgan @rbreich just repeating it is a problem
@theperch I don't think it's a problem to say "they call themselves pro life but they are not"
nor does it give someone a moral box to stand on to call them a huge hypocrite
but ig we can agree to disagree
@rbreich racism is a hell of a drug.
@rbreich they are pro fetus, not pro life 😉👍🏼 remember that
@rbreich But hatred towards the #LGBT #lgbtq community and the #blacklivesmatter movement and those who believe #woke #wokeness means learning from #history and living #Christian values will be this way as long as there are hate fueled violent people willing to kill people in #colorado #Coloradosprings at #ClubQ and politicians like #desantis to validate their beliefs. As long as this goes unchanged while it doesn't have to be this way it will be this way.
@rbreich I refuse to call them "pro-life". They're simply anti-choice.
@rbreich I've never understood why some people have to go through life kicking and screaming. Unless something really affects you, disrupts your life, is it really worth it? So much easier to be a little more Zen.
@rbreich I'm so glad you're here.
@rbreich until people understand how unacceptable these views are in a civilised society it will continue - and it will get worse.
Condemning this now isn’t the solution. Condemning it during an election cycle is!
@rbreich Instead of identifying the shooter, they should name it after the republican politician that inspired the attack. For instance, the Club Q shootings should be named after Lauren Boebert as she's inspiring her constituents like this guy. He's nothing but a foot solder for her and her rhetoric.
@rbreich show me where pro-life Republican is spouting hate against gay people? And let's not talk about drag queen story hour

@OldGlory @rbreich Let's not talk about actual cases where they're spouting hate, that doesn't count!

Come on. The rhetoric about "grooming" led directly to this latest act of terrorism.

@spikex @rbreich If you don't want to talk specifics. That is your choice but remember con men never talk specifics. If you generalize everything. You can apply everything generally to agree with your stance on any given subject. I deal with hardcore facts. The kind that lead to a proper and correct answer. But that's me.

@OldGlory @rbreich Specifically, Republicans have been whipping their base into a frenzy about drag queens "grooming" children (into what is never specified, because the vaguer the threat the better) by reading them stories. This has culminated in the terrorist attack on a drag event in Colorado Springs.

Specific enough for you?

@rbreich They can’t handle trump, but look how strong they pretend to be, when it’s time to belittle vulnerable minorities.
@rbreich It's easy if you don't consider LGBTQIA+ member a as people. Then you can do whatever you want.
@rbreich Not sure the pro life philosophy would promote the death of any group of people. 🤔
@horseface @rbreich That's because - and I hope you're sitting down for this - they're not actually pro-life.
@spikex @rbreich well… I think they are two different groups of people actually. I don’t know that broad-brushing pro-lifers as violent fanatics is accurate, though they do tend to also believe that the lgbtq demographics are morally depraved. Typically senseless killing is carried out by the fringes, whether that be fringe right, or fringe left.
@horseface @rbreich That is the hypocrisy of GOP. They claim to be for life, but don't want to feed the children, Don't want to educate the children.
@surfie @rbreich They’re actively involved in feeding and educating children. Unfortunately a lot of the efforts are faith-based, but it’s food and education nonetheless.
@horseface @rbreich Faith based doesn't count. That crosses the line of Separating Church and State. Leaving Govt duties to Church, and forcing religion un people just to live.
@surfie @rbreich When it comes to math and standard primary subjects, having a religious teacher isn’t as big a deal as when it comes to subjects like evolution and astronomy. I mean, there’s no “Jesus math” that’s any different than normal math. “One nail, plus one nail equals a crucified Christ.” Lol.
@rbreich it is always pro-life as long as it is not the life of those their loving god ordered them to hate.
@rbreich prolife conservationists protecting god s #creation ?
@rbreich It doesn’t have to be this way. Vote any and all Republicans out of office. Donate what you can & VOTE for Sen Warnock, if in GA for the runoff. #VoteBlue
@rbreich
shouldn't we be discussing how horrible racist and fascist really are. They're ideology is to attack even kill other humans because they are different, yet brown, Asian, liberal, Muslim, Jews, LGBTQ don't cause harm to anyone, why are we normalizing these monstrous people, why do they get to strut around as normal. Racist and Fascist are no better than murderers, their hate speech and actions are criminal.

@rbreich They are not pro-life if they are pro-abuse against others

Pro-life is such a senseless moniker

@rbreich  And where they just can't love capital punishment enough. Why one would almost think they weren't really "pro life" at all!

@rbreich I live in Colorado Springs. The anti-LGBTQ rhetoric has been excessively ramped up lately — especially at school board meetings. Many public figures who have espoused anti-LGBTQ sentiments offered their condolences without directly mentioning the LGBTQ community.

Words matter. The LGBTQ community deserves to be acknowledged, respected, valued, and protected.

And, it needs to be widely known that unarmed members of that community subdued the shooter.

@rbreich I am so sad (and angry) about these killings. So many sick people who care about what others do in bed!
@rbreich
The “Republicans = pro life” theory has been debunked for decades.
@rbreich if found the best way to get back at them is ask them how long they have lived in South Canada.
@rbreich we need to fight by taking a stand on the state level.
@rbreich they’re anti choice, not prolife imo
@rbreich also "pro-life" people spout hateful rhetoric about women's control of their bodies, and women die from lack of care, spout hatred of immigrants, and they get put in cages, spout hatred of POC and they get shot at. It's a pattern. And its pernicious.
@rbreich If we could only get Democrats to wake up and vote. Most of us are Fa LaLaLaing our way to fascism. We now have 2 years to get these punks out of office..Care damn it.
