Firstly, I'd just like to say thank you to all the people who have liked, boosted and commented on my images, and to all the new followers I have. It's rather humbling. 😊

Today's shot comes from a magical day in the Scottish #Highlands, a few years ago, when I was photographing red squirrels.

These charming characters are incredibly agile and can jump great distances between trees.

Here I managed to capture one as it appears to be flying down my lens.

You won't be surprised to hear I have a book for that too. Rowan the Red Squirrel doesn't live on Mull, though - he makes his home in Redcastle on the Black Isle near Inverness. Illustrations by Jon Mitchell.

@rickardsauthor Fabulous. Alas there are no squirrels on Mull, so it makes sense that your book isn't based here. The Black Isle is a lovely spot. I've visited numerous times over the years.

@spmatich No, I think they're ok. Grey squirrels have been a problem in recent times, but there appears to be a solution in that pine martens can control and even wipe out grey populations, leaving the reds to remain as they are.

@petewalkden As you my be able to tell from my username, I am insanely fond of squirrels -- all types on all continents -- for decades, so I've been following the UK's red/grey issue from over here in NYC, even though we don't have the European reds with the lovely, long ear tufts. Thank you for the update!

As you're an amazing photographer, have you ever captured the squirrel landing stance from a drop to the ground? It's in keeping with the superhero theme. <giggles madly>
