Hardest thing I've evet written: on the death of Awaab Ishak
https://www.newstatesman.com/comment/2022/11/awaab-ishak-child-death-britain-housing-government

A child has died from Britain's failed housing system. Will the government finally act?

Incidents like the death of Awaab Ishak are thankfully rare; the conditions that lead to them are all too common.

30 odd years ago I remember thinking how awful the climate change predictions were for the UK, I wasn't looking forward to warmer wetter winters and dryer hotter summers so tried to do my bit but here we are the hottest driest summer and so far the warmest wetter winter. Non stop rain today, more flooding. Although of course nothing in comparison to what other parts of the world are having to endure. No one in charge or those who have created it cares, they can escape it!

This feels appropriate for the second thing I've ever posted to mastodon.
This seems like an appropriate first comic for mastodon.

Are you tagged in a thread that you don't want to take part in any more?

You can mute just the conversation itself, no one will know you've done this:

-Log in through website or a third party app, go to one of your posts in the thread, click on ⋯ and "Mute conversation".

-If you haven't posted in the thread, go to a post where you were tagged, then ⋯ and "Mute conversation".

-If you change your mind, do same thing but select "Unmute conversation".

The official app doesn't have this yet.

Firstly, I'd just like to say thank you to all the people who have liked, boosted and commented on my images, and to all the new followers I have. It's rather humbling. 😊

Today's shot comes from a magical day in the Scottish #Highlands, a few years ago, when I was photographing red squirrels.

These charming characters are incredibly agile and can jump great distances between trees.

Here I managed to capture one as it appears to be flying down my lens.

Have you ever seen an oak tree dance?

Britain is full of 'lost' rainforests, predominantly in the southwest and northwest of England, western/northwestern parts of Wales and the west coast of Scotland. There are other areas where the conditions are perfect too, like this one in the Peak District National Park.

When the rain starts and the cloud base drops into the rainforest, the trees come alive. Everywhere you look, there is magic and mystery.
