Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint

If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset Canada’s entire carbon footprint.

@BrentToderian great idea but have you ever been to Netherlands? It’s flat, like a billiard table, no hills, easy riding.

@alistairgbarron @BrentToderian I’ll say what i’ve said before: 90% of the cities I’ve been in are “flat as a pancake” or low sloping.

The city I live in is actually a weird tangle of under and over passes for cars, bikes, people. there’s some upslopes. we manage.

@AuthorNico @BrentToderian not everyone lives in a city on the flat but travel throughout the land. Even in the Netherlands cycling isn’t limited to Amsterdam.
@alistairgbarron @BrentToderian I know that. I live in a dutch city that has plenty of not hills, but bike/car/ped overpass and underpasses. flat? Not entirely.
But largely, every city I’ve been in around the world, aside from parts of seattle and a chunk of SF, are relatively, speaking quite flat. with the advent of ebike, it renders most moderate hills easy as flat-land riding.
People say “the netherlands is flat” as if we don’t have gravity, either.
