I am heartbroken by this news. 5 are dead and 18 wounded from this horrific armed assault at a gay club hosting a drag show night in Colorado Springs.

An attack upon our community anywhere is an attack upon us all everywhere. My heart is with the victims and their families.

@karllouis @georgetakei Unbelievable. Dropped out of school because she got pregnant by a man who exposed himself to a bunch of teens. It took her 4 tries to pass the GED with a barely passing grade. The GED is equivalent to an 8th grade test. Basically, a person who obviously makes poor choices, and has the education of a 14 year old, got elected to office.

@georgetakei It is time to stop the madness. In addition to the so called "common sense" approaches to gun control, we need to ban assault rifles and confiscate the ones that are out there.

Yes, you can kill with a handgun or even a knife, but not in such numbers. There is much more to do besides that, but it would be a good start.

@jesseliberty @georgetakei it Australia didnt confiscate guns. The Govt initiated a national gun buyback scheme for all weapons that did not comply, which ended up melting down more than 650,000 firearms at a cost of $350m.

Each state and territory introduced and enforced a firearm licensing and registration system requiring people to have a β€œgenuine reason” for having a firearm, such as sport or target shooting, recreational hunting or being a farmer. β€œPersonal protection” did not count as a genuine reason. All states banned automatic and semi-automatic long guns.
