through meeting #Anglican s of #twexodus I discovered the #lectionary Soemthing I've not encountered as a #baptist. Considering drawing to it as part of #Fedichurch as it seems to be a global and cross denominational.
@Aslanmane so how to do select your readings for services without a lectionary? The advantage of a #Lectionary is that I can’t always pick my favourite texts or avoid those that are challenging to preach on. I follow the lectionary and take the rough with the smooth.
@Jimothy There's usually an opening passage at the start of the service which is selected by the person in charge of the order of service. The sermon, passage and worship music are usually related.
Our pastor has been preaching through the sermon on the Mount.which means he's been preaching on sexuality recently (Adultery and Divorce) January is set aside for 5 psalms. The liturgical calendar is only recognised during Easter and advent. Lent isn't a thing.
Baptist churches vary though. I know one that has a high church approach. We are federated.
@Aslanmane Love the lectionary. One of the wonderful things about it is, for churches who follow it, each Sunday they are discussing and celebrating the same scriptures and topics that are being considered all over the world that day.
@royal I attended two services yesterday. To intentionally experience a service following the lectionary. I have to say. I really enjoyed the enhanced feeling of being part of the global body of Christ.
To come online and see the same reflections in the diverse Christians I follow. I want that.
@Aslanmane I'm pretty sure there are #Baptists who follow the #lectionary, though my exposure to Baptists shows that may be the minority. There are lots of great lectionary resources out there you can take advantage of.
@Aslanmane
Gloria Wall has a Bible-reading plan based on the North American Revised Common Lectionary. It's a fairly non-denominational lectionary (though her reading plan leaves out the apocrypha), but not entirely international, having readings specifically for the US Thanksgiving.
