I thought I would try the #FollowBackFriday thing because I feel intrusive trying to cold start conversations with people. As needy as it sounds I am here to make friends and socialize. Looking for fellow #writers and #artists or #muscians I am enjoying mastodon and hope to communicate with other people with my interests some of which are #FrostGrave #Osr #Jrpgs #IndieGames #Scifi #Fantasy #Horror #IndustrialMetal #DeathMetal #Punk #Pynchon #FreakFolk #Gnosis #Zen #ArtFilm hope to talk soon
@dharmadischarge hi Drew, no need to feel intrusive! Click one of your hashtags, read some posts, follow some people who seem cool. You don’t even need to introduce yourself. Now your Home timeline will be full of the things THOSE people toot and boost, and you’ll find even more cool people. Pretty soon you’ll want to reply to a post. Do it! It won’t take long before you build some great connections and friendships ❤️
@dharmadischarge as you can see if you look at your Notifications, I’ve boosted your post. Now everyone who follows me will see it. Some of them will respond personally, some will re-boost. And so it goes!
@Kayray thank you. and sorry for the delayed response. I am not getting notifications for some reason. probably just the servers being overwhelmed.
@dharmadischarge yeah, hang on tight, it will be bumpy around here for a few days. It was like this last week when the First Big Wave came over, but our admins will upgrade servers as necessary and it will be smooth again soon 😁
@dharmadischarge also, don’t be shy about favoriting and boosting. There’s no algorithm here, which means if you fav a bunch of posts about, um, pine trees one day, your feed won’t be full of pine trees the next. Fav’ing is like saying “I liked or identified with your post, good sir” and boosting is like “I think the people who follow me might enjoy reading this too”. Very low stakes.

@Kayray right on and thank you.

the way mastodon is structured is like the opposite of other sites of its kind (which is a blessing).

Just have to reprogram myself a little lol

@dharmadischarge in a couple days you’ll be helping the next wave of newbies ☺️
@Kayray I think tomorrow morning they are doubling the size of the servers so hopefully, I can talk more regularly after that
@PatheticWeasel Hey, and sorry for the delayed response as well just checking back to my original post to find out people have commented, I am getting no notifications, have you been getting notifications?
@dharmadischarge it's a social network let's chat and build a nice community 😍
@ciaxeres that is what I love about here. there is a quality of earnest engagement people bring to each other by the very nature of how it's structured.
@dharmadischarge I'm loving this media, i'm interacting a lot, idk if im invading someone space, but people here are really nice and welcoming :)

@ciaxeres that is how I feel too!

I like the moderators here. I have had some people not been not interested in talking which is fine. but the important difference here is no one has been hostile or seemingly try to harm me. which makes the shared space more sociable. it is just kind of nice.

@dharmadischarge Fellow musician here. Hi!
@mtsjr Hey! I followed you back and will check out your posts feel free to comment on any of mine you find interesting. also I am curious what kind of music do you like?
@dharmadischarge I enjoy a wide array of music. I studies Jazz guitar at Berklee School of Music but enjoying playing Rock, Blues, Funk, Metal and enjoy free form experimental music. I have not posted any of my music yet. I have been concentrating on learning the proper way to record focusing on modern heavy metal at the moment but using those techniques and applying them to all styles of music
@mtsjr that could be wild. I am not as familiar with jazz guitar except gypsy jazz (I think is what it is called) but I am pretty familiar with the others genres though my idea of experimental is like pere ubu or the residents. I been on a kick of listening to Deven Townsend's projects from strapping young lad to his solo stuff like ocean machine. and surprisingly (to me) found I love ragtime music just recently those syncopated rhythms are fun as heck.
@dharmadischarge Hi. I’m Mary and I’m a jewelry artist
@Boydsilverworks hey! What kind of jewelry do you make?

@dharmadischarge
Hi! It does feel weird trying to cold start convo, doesn't it? Kinda like going in the real world and walking up to people and saying something like, "I like whales! What's your favourite animal?"

You mention metal... have you ever listened to The Hu (Mongolian folk metal band)? They're my most recent discovery and I'm on a mission to make sure everyone has heard of them before I die. (Wolf Totem's my fav)

PS - what's your fav animal?

@shans I have heard The hu I used to listen to Yuve Yuve Yu on repeat for hours. I have not heard Wolf Totem however I will check out that song in a minute.

I am listening now and I dig it.

Favorite animal (yes I am going to answer it lol) I love cats and always have but have not had a chance to have one as a pet because I have a lot of little breakables and I don't want to resent it for destroying them.

but my favorite is an Abyssinian guinea pig. they have personalities and are adorable.

@dharmadischarge
I'm delighted to hear this!

YES. Cats are extraordinary creatures. Sometimes I wonder if they've been more successful at domesticating *us* than the other way around. Cats and breakables really don't go well together, no.

I love the cowlicks on the Abyssinian guinea pigs! I know little about guinea pigs but used to have rabbits. I think rodents don't get enough appreciation.

@shans that is a good point about cats. I like that idea.

Rabbits are also really cool, I love most animals. I wish I was vegetarian but have yet to commit to it.

I had a really rough evening at a family get-together. give me a bit to get my head together and will message a longer reply.

@dharmadischarge
I might get into trouble for saying this but I think it's okay to live in the grey zone and do things like meatless Mondays and whatnot. I struggled hard to be strictly vegan for a few years. I'm that person I hated hahaha! I don't think it must be B&W.

Sorry to hear about that rough evening - take good care.

@shans I do meatless periods of time where I don't eat meat.

and it makes sense not for to not have to be Black and white because as long as we are trying to better ourselves and help others then we are doing the best we can.

and thank you. I just had to think about stuff and crash but am feeling a lot better today.

@dharmadischarge fellow potter here. Hi 👋🏾

@keramikslu Hey, your work is gorgeous.

and clay is hard to work with.

@dharmadischarge See me profile for more. I be an introverted extrovert, old punk. Still compose variants, as well as ambient. lyricist and minor poet as well. Former hardcore scifi fan for years. Nerd.
✌🏻🖖🏽🎼

@dharmadischarge in horror, hmm I like creepypasta-aspects in storytelling&creativity by voice, could be a thing with writing (but I'm no musician, nor artist in drawing still using photofiltre7 to edit covers maybe?)

could suggest itch .com games to try or or to play on kongregate, it possibly have indie-sections

recording theories in games might be some thing to dub by musical-lines?

btw: talks on jitsi/systemli-opensource or texting on similar virtual paper being cool too
