1: #Tokyo metro map in 2D.
2: The same map in 3D.
@straphanger I saw a 3-D model of the Tokyo system using automated toy trains. I’ll look for the video. It was sublime.
@knf100 Please share! I'd love to see that. I've seen 2d real-time maps of the Yamanote line, but never a model...
@straphanger @knf100 I'd like to see the video too! Even if it's only the metro system I'll be happy (Yamanote line is not metro, it's JR national railways).
@nexus_5_ @straphanger @knf100 this sounds interesting, if you could count me in too that would be great!
@knf100 @straphanger Ooo,ooo… I’d love to see that
@straphanger love to see this for #London. How about it #tfl 😀
@malcyates @straphanger
ooo! to-scale 3D lines, made with LEDs so it can show the real-time current locations of all the trains :D
But where to put it?
and: show Crossrail, Thameslink, DLR, Overground etc? might get too big to really see the central bits?

@straphanger

What always gets me, is that building pilings are still possible when there is a swiss cheese of tunnels and the like underneath the surface.

@straphanger 東京メトロラーメンです
@straphanger Wait, how do lines go up and down?
@straphanger I mean, that's supposed to be subways not roller coasters
@straphanger I’m here for this and now wondering if anyone has ever rebuilt an underground/subway/metro as a 3D N gauge model railway…

@straphanger @swardley

On maps, accuracy and useful utility.

@straphanger I used the to run pegs along that when I was waiting for my pediatrician to call my into his office.
@straphanger it looks like the best water slide ever
@straphanger this is so cool!! I wonder if there is something similar for the London Underground?
@straphanger is this real? i never notice it go up or down! 😮
@straphanger Tokyo metro be like 📈📉📈📉📈📉📈
@straphanger reminds me of the tube in London
@straphanger Very cool. Any idea what the vertical scale is on the 3D model?
@straphanger We were in Japan in Sept. I took a Tokyo metro mos from the hotel lobby for a souvenir. I opened it at home to discover I got the one in all Japanese! Ha!
@straphanger is this like a different representation of the map or do the lines really change depth that drastically? I've never thought about this before!
@RyanFrancis @straphanger
Having worked on constructing railway lines, I can definitely say they don't plunge and rise drastically like that. Would cause significant problems if it attempted to. ^_^;
@mpetach @straphanger I was wondering, I haven't been in many subways and as far as I could feel it didn't seem to go up or down at all. Thanks!
@straphanger what a complex metro system. amazing engineering
@straphanger even more like a bowl of ramen this way!
@straphanger In fact it's a rollercoaster!
@straphanger have you heard about the way they managed to potentiate the node's/train stops locations by copying intelligent animal cells own design?
@straphanger
It's awesome, right up until you realize every subway line ends by plummeting straight into the earth's core. ^_^;
@straphanger a giant roller coaster !😃
@straphanger It's amazing the things that you never knew would make you happy until you see them. 👏👏👏👏👏
@straphanger how out is the vertical scale? I'd love to see a variant (or at least a digital 3D model) with Tokyo's true geography represented with a known vertical distortion.

@straphanger Every city ought to have a 3D metro map like that. At the local transit museum, or at a/the central station.

Now I want one made with LEDs so it can show real-time location of trains.

@straphanger Where is this 3D map located?
@straphanger This is giving me Minato station flashbacks
@straphanger It took me 3 minutes to get the joke lol
@straphanger Nicely done! When I was there many moons ago it reminded me of spaghetti. 😆
@straphanger it is impressive how depth changes so much perception.
@straphanger Dude slap a CW for NSFW on this or something
those tunnels really go up and down like that? in many places for what looks like no reason?

i didn't remember feeling that in tokyo
@straphanger This is amazing! I've ridden the subways and trains in Tokyo numerous times but never thought about how they "interact" with one another under the ground!
@straphanger Looks like rollercoaster! It will be a challenge to map out for tourists to understand hmm I wonder if there is an interactive map to show google map style. Hmm wait. google map probably on it.
@straphanger I still feel one of my greatest accomplishments in life was figuring out how to get from point A to point Z, and all points in between, on the Tokyo system 🇯🇵
@straphanger They should put little beads on each line, like those children's toys you see at the doctor's office #tokyo #SubwayMap #visualization
