#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL has refused to disclose 2014 New Tube for London concept images submitted by unsuccessful bidders Alstom and a Hitachi/Bombardier joint venture. TfL stated that releasing the designs is exempt under section 43(2) of the Freedom of Information Act, as disclosure could prejudice the commercial interests of those companies in future competitive tenders. The public body determined that protecting commercial confidentiality to secure the best value for public money outweighed the general public interest in transparency. Addressing enquiries regarding why Siemens was selected despite current teething issues, TfL confirmed the contract was awarded because Siemens submitted the most economically advantageous tender. The evaluation followed a strict four-stage process assessing mandatory technical requirements, deliverability, and whole-life costs for the Piccadilly, Bakerloo, Central, and Waterloo & City lines.

Essential platform renewal and extension works will take place at Limehouse station between June and November.

During the first phase, from Monday 22 June to Monday 6 July, the Essex-bound platform (Platform 2) will be closed. Passengers travelling from #London to #Essex cannot exit, enter, or interchange with the DLR at Limehouse. Instead, they should take a London-bound service to Fenchurch Street for onward c2c trains, or use #TfL services to connect at West Ham. DLR passengers should interchange at West Ham, Tower Gateway, or Bank, though additional charges may apply. Passengers requiring assistance should book in advance.

The project, delivered by c2c and Aureos, involves replacing timber decking with durable Glass Reinforced Plastic composite decking, upgrading lighting, and extending Platform 1 by 28 metres to increase capacity. c2c has apologised for the disruption and advised passengers to plan ahead.

#TfL has published Version 2.7 of its New London Bus Vehicle Specification, introducing updated standards for safety, #accessibility, environmental performance and passenger comfort across the capital’s bus fleet. The document supports TfL’s Vision Zero target to eliminate deaths and serious injuries involving buses by 2030 and confirms all new buses must be zero tailpipe emission vehicles.

The specification includes stricter requirements for fire suppression, smoke detection, tyre pressure monitoring, driver fatigue systems and camera-based visibility technology. Accessibility standards have also been updated, while staircase glazing and skylight windows will not be permitted.

Measures will be introduced from 2026 to 2033. TfL said some details relating to CCTV and bus runaway systems have been redacted under Freedom of Information exemptions on safety and national security grounds.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:

#TfL has issued the latest tender documents for bus routes 158, 58, 55, 56, W19, W16, 397 and 275 serving #Walthamstow and surrounding areas. The contracts outline revised service specifications, vehicle requirements and performance targets, with most agreements operating on incentivised terms. Several routes include options for reduced daytime frequencies, while operators are required to consider driver welfare facilities in submissions.

Routes 55 and 56 begin new contracts in March 2025, with Route 55 continuing to use existing New Routemaster vehicles. Routes 158 and 275 start in February 2026 with mandatory pricing for new and zero-emission buses. Smaller single-deck vehicles remain required on routes W16, W19 and 397 due to road and bridge restrictions. TfL also highlighted operational risks including congestion, bridge weight limits and delays around Walthamstow, #Leytonstone and East Ham.

The Mayor of #London and #TfL have launched a new #Walking and #Wheeling Action Plan aimed at making streets safer, healthier and easier to use over the next decade. The strategy includes 1,000 new pedestrian crossings by 2031, wider use of School Streets, lower traffic speeds, upgraded town centres and improved walking links to stations and bus stops. A new riverside walking route is also planned by 2029. The plan is designed to encourage more daily walking, support local high streets and improve public health, while tackling barriers such as unsafe roads, pavement clutter and fear of crime. It also supports the Mayor’s target for 80 per cent of journeys in London to be made by walking, cycling or public #transport by 2041. TfL said the programme would be delivered with boroughs and local partners across the capital.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:

#TfL has outlined the history and scope of the New Tube for London programme, originally launched around 2010/11 as the Deep Tube Upgrade Programme. The plans covered the Piccadilly, Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo & City lines, aiming to introduce new trains and signalling systems to increase capacity, improve passenger experience and support the potential for future driverless operation. TfL said driverless services would also have required platform edge doors, although the Bakerloo line was excluded due to shared operation with National Rail services north of Queen’s Park.

The programme was later scaled back because of funding pressures, the withdrawal of Government capital grants and the pandemic. TfL confirmed there are currently no plans to introduce driverless trains or platform edge doors on any Underground line.
