Y’all I want to find people in the Black Twitter instance (is that the right word) but every time I try, Mastodon tells me I have to log in again and then doesn’t accept my login. Help!
@austinchanning what do you mean find? you want to look at their list of users?
@athosmoreno Well someone posted a list but when I went to follow someone I couldn’t- got a login page
@austinchanning you need to copy and paste their url or user@instance to your instance search bar, going to their page and try to follow it directly won't work

@austinchanning This is the clunkiest thing about Mastodon!

If you are looking at someone's profile and the URL starts with "blacktwitter.io" then anything you try to do will ask for a login. :/

How to proceed will depend on what app/website you are using.

Since I use the web, I copy paste the profile url "https://blacktwitter.io/@username" or their handle "@[email protected]" into my search bar on robot.rodeo and follow them from there.

it is very clunky, and I have done it so many times it's automatic.

@austinchanning From the list, you can just copy the links to people's profiles and then paste them into search and follow that way. Still clunky! And probably easier on a computer than a phone unless you are Gen Z. 🤣
@mike there should be an "open profile in frame" button that puts your own instance above it so you can take actions based on what's displayed. If it's a profile, follow; if it's a toot, reply or boost.

@austinchanning
The last big migration (sounds majestic!) This sort of thing happened too - the servers are just stretched to the max.

I didn't check - have you done an #introduction post? Do that, add some hashtags like #BlackTwitter and anything else you are interested in and we will boost you.

This will settle down and you will be able to sign in soon.

Good luck!

@austinchanning So the easiest way is to just copy the username of the person whose profile you're looking at. It will look something like an email address. Once you've copied it, paste it in to your mastodon app, and the user will appear in the app for you to follow!
@austinchanning Yeah, it's very confusing and frustrating to learn. If you're seeing something like the screenshot below, the log in only works if you have an account on THAT instance. You'll usually want to click the "Copy" button in the bottom right, come back to your mastodon, paste it in the search bar, THEN you can interact with that account (follow, boost, fave, etc.) 😩
@alex Some servers have a cool button that pops up another window on your own instance to take action on, I presume it's some kind of modification or pre-release feature; Can't remember where I've seen it but hopefully it becomes more widespread!
@austinchanning Use the search. Copy/paste the @user@instance into there and you can then follow without trouble.
@austinchanning To log in, use the email address associated with your account, not your Mastodon address. Drove me crazy until I figured this out.
@austinchanning I think it's a little overwhelmed. This happened to me trying to find you. Eventually let me log in. I did have to log in again once I found you to add you. I don't have to log in again if people are on my server. Think Mastodon is just a little pressured right now. Hi over here by the way!
@austinchanning I know.. I have had the same thing. Keep changing my password but once it’s changed, it doesn’t like it 🥹
@austinchanning I have the Black Twitter instance on one of my posts. They aren't accepting new people. They ask you to email them when go to the server page.

@austinchanning

So, here's how I do using a mobile browser.
After step 3, it may ask you to login to your instance if you're not logged into it on your browser yet.
That step can be avoided on desktop with the "mastodon simplifier" addon for firefox, but unfortunately it doesn't work for mobile yet
An alternate solution is to copy the account's address and paste it in the search bar from your instance.
