I really really wish you could subscribe to different instances.
@RobynCaplan Why can't you?
@adam I think if you are on your own instance, then you can subscribe to other instances. But if you're on someone else's it's not possible.
@RobynCaplan They are looking at having the ability to set your federated or local feed to a specific instance - kind of like "hey - what's going on over on that server today". You would be able to pick an choose, possibly subscribe as a list. Dunno - just in discussion now.
@ArrogantHair This would be incredible. Would subscribe! To this feature and other instances. Also I'd pay...
@RobynCaplan yeah, it should be a server-side setting - allow public follows of this instance. Then, imagine following a few different instances and having posts from those instances in on dashboard, Tweetdeck-style :) #Mastodon
@RobynCaplan you can do that via #MetaText app, just add an instance you’re not a member of in “accounts” section and select browse. Not elegant, but a workaround of sorts.
@einar Oh damn! I have that app.
@RobynCaplan agreed. i would love to scroll through #lawprofs or the #infosecexchange, etc., but i don't necessarily want to move servers.
@RobynCaplan yes - and that you could see who people follow from different servers
@RobynCaplan yes! Maybe my biggest complaint. Though I use the Toot! iOS app and that allows you to look at the local timeline for different servers and so far I feel like that been a reasonable substitute?
@dedmon oh damn!! I’ll do that. Can you boost them?
@RobynCaplan you can! And click through to people’s profiles and follow/reply etc. The functionality there needs work though and I feel maybe depends on the server? Sometimes it works fine other times I get a server connection error or the boost/follow appears later on.
@RobynCaplan I do too. Maybe that will hay in the future.
@RobynCaplan You can, it only requires a 2nd/distinct email account. That is literally all you need.
