If I didnโ€™t have twitter Iโ€™d have died, as this time last year @JuliaBradbury posted a tweet with info about ovarian cancer & I ticked every box and got a blood test at GP & caught it at stage 3 -which was late enough. I would never have questioned these symptoms otherwise
@Janeygodley
I keep saying this butโ€ฆ
If the NHS are offering free check-ups take them up on it regardless of if you think itโ€™s not for you.
@partnumber2
Screening for this isn't a part of any of the NHS physicals. You have to basically beat down your GPs door to get an appointment and then hope that they listen to you and take it seriously.
@Janeygodley For all the terrible stuff that is on there and the current megalomaniac in chief's ego trip, its easy to forget that its been a genuine force for good for some in the past. Still, glad you made it over to toot about it :D

@Janeygodley the bird box* can be toxic AF a lot of the times. We just have to remember that is was also the source of a lot of good too

*My preferred pseudonym for #twitter ~ mainly because referencing it with the name of a movie about a post-apocalyptic hell-scape amuses the feck out of me

@Janeygodley thanks ๐Ÿ™ be that she did! Glad youโ€™re here! X
@Janeygodley Thanks for passing the information on to us.
@Janeygodley indeed. Fibroids too. Glad you're still here and on this platform too, to tell the tale.
@scribblingval @Janeygodley I've read conflicting info on fibroids. Some sources say they're not dangerous, others say it can lead to uterine cancer.
@Janeygodley glad ur still with it โ€ฆ and us ๐Ÿฆž๐Ÿชท๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ
@Janeygodley yes There was much good in Twitter. Not all bad.And a good community of friends for some.If it had always been pure toxicity we wouldnโ€™t have stayed. Thank you for reblogging this. So will I
@Janeygodley which is why I believe it's very important for us to try to bring those medical professionals , those field experts to mastodon, considering how Twitter is now rampant with disinformation.
@sub_o @Janeygodley I started here by following recommended lists of Academics, the ability to create and share lists of experts here is fabulous.
@Janeygodley Iโ€™m glad youโ€™re alive and you survived!
@Janeygodley this is dependent on general practitioners listening to patients instead of making rash decisions and ignoring their concerns.
@Janeygodley because of conversations that I had on Twitter, I evaluated my extreme pain, went to the doctor, and discovered that I had multiple large uterine fibroids, one the size of my fist. I had previously for years pushed aside the pain because of how in real life, people don't discuss these issues or just call it normal period pain. Online people are more open and willing to discuss things that aren't normally said in public IRL spaces.
@Janeygodley
๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’š Healing blessings.
@Janeygodley
There definitely is a lot of good on ๐Ÿฆ And you've done a lot yourself to raise awareness on #OvarianCancer too. I'm in awe of how you've come through it, in no small part due to #science and #medical Twitter.
@Janeygodley
Twitter certainly has many good qualities. Too bad it looks like itโ€™s being destroyed. Maybe keep your account there and follow what you need but socialize here? I am sure as everyone finds their feet here important news will follow. Sorry for what you went through but so glad you are well now.
@[email protected] thank goodness you caught it. Thank goodness for the old Twitter.
@Janeygodley Yeah this kinda thing scares me to death. When a Dr. Choudhry died last year of it, I was concerned. I don't have these exact symptoms, but some other ones that could be explained by perimenopause (I'm 43), or uterine polyps, fibroids, or cancer (but the latter is rare). They don't test for ovarian cancer proactively, my female doctor told me.
@Janeygodley I, along with many others, am so glad you saw that tweet and got checked out. You've done amazingly and long may it continue.
@Janeygodley I'd suggest the lifesaver was following people who shared helpful content and particularly great of Julia to share her story. Twitter has been great for the people more than the tech. What Musk is doing may not break the tech but it threatens the community spirit and willingness of people to share
@Janeygodley This is what's driving me bonkers about the effective loss of the bird app. It's saved countless lives... I mourn it's passing.
@Janeygodley Well, I donโ€™t know you, but Iโ€™m glad you caught that tweet and thus the cancer. Thatโ€™s scary, how such a small thing can make the difference between life and death.
@Janeygodley # WOW! That is a great testament for Twitter! So glad you are here. I had a similar experience that I am just now recouping from. Being informed is important...best wishes.
@Janeygodley I remember giving a woman information on how to sign up for the ACA when it first opened and the website crashed. Her daughter had been unable to sign up, and the deadline was approaching. I gave her a phone number I had been given by the Obama Administration. Later, she messaged me and said that her daughter had been able to sign up. She was grateful. I thought, "Twitter is wonderful."
