One of my pals told me my Twitter comments were as viscous as AOC and Nancy Pelosi. I though everyone’s were like that! I just got used to it. As much as you can. It’s nothing short of astounding to me that I can just post and engage on here and people respond in a way that seems normal and real. The Twitter comments world is distorted and dangerous. I don’t see how twitter can be fixed. We’re better off here. ❤️
@kathygriffin You are a liked and respected human. Welcome!
@kathygriffin yea from the what 25k+ new users in the last few hours to the fediverse I'm thinking a lot of people are feeling that way.
@kathygriffin I’m glad you’re having this experience now.
@kathygriffin This is what the Internet used to be circa '95 or '96. Real people having real conversations!
@atmanrising @kathygriffin definitely feels like it, the noise is gone, the feeling of being the product is gone, I might not engage much in social media but this feels more honest
@regionativo @kathygriffin It's been great for my mental health for sure.
@atmanrising @kathygriffin Mastodon reminds me of the BBS (Bulletin Board System) community in the 1980s - decentralized but handles used across systems. Unfortunately you had to have a 1200 baud modem (or higher) and Commodore 64, Amiga or IBM to access in '80s. When a user started sexually harassing me over private messages on a BBS called Clear Thinking - the sysop ("SYStem OPerator") cut his access to me, and the rest of the BBS immediately. I like seeing that kind of attitude on Mastodon.
@kathygriffin let us all prove that we can build a better community of human decency over here.
@kathygriffin It does seem to be beyond fixed...and right into fucked.
@kathygriffin I'm right now trying to tell everyone I know to make sure their Twitter password is unique before the site is completely compromised. The coming data breach will be HUGE.
@kathygriffin I've had more interesting conversations with people here in a week than I had on Twitter since 2016. Prior to that year (when the algorithm was introduced), Twitter was actually quite a fun place to be, although not as good as Mastodon.
@kathygriffin Sometimes you have to start all over to make things right. A lot of people will be finding that.
@kathygriffin twitter was really broken for a long time. I think because it got slowly worse and worse people didn’t notice that it stopped being a good place
@kathygriffin Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are toxic. The digital Love Canals of the Internet. You are a unique talent. You deserve to be in an environment where your talents are understood and appreciated.
@kathygriffin Twitter commentary has been so unhinged for a while, its so nice to be reminded that there are sane places online still.
@kathygriffin Glad you are enjoying Mastodon and have pulled yourself away from that toxicity.
@kathygriffin Twitter mentions basically became YouTube comment sections in recent years. Often toxic and just unreadable.
@kathygriffin yes we are. Feels good, doesn't it.
@SnSWatkins, hello pretty how are you doing over there ?
@kathygriffin <3 This is your time to thrive!
@kathygriffin Give it time. Twitter used to be good too 15 years ago.
@kathygriffin A good rule of thumb would I want it done to me? While we are all very passionate about democracy and passionately against everything that tries to destroy it there are better ways to state things without being hateful. You never want to become like them that's the key.

@kathygriffin

I agree completely. Twitter is the place I go to when I want to talk smack to a politician. Mastodon is the place I come to to share ideas and have fun.

@kathygriffin Well, it may be going down for the count, in the next 24 hrs. KG. I'm glad we got situated here a couple of weeks ago. It's a nice place.

@kathygriffin
Twitter felt like the guys locker room at gym class.

This feels more like the library when the chess club, model UN, debate team, and some people that really just like reading are all hanging out while waiting for the busses to run again.

@kathygriffin Well, your comments do tend to hit the mark and stick, so viscous is quite apt.;-)
@kathygriffin it’s really wild just how different the interactions are on here v. Twitter
Is it the self selected folks who are here? Or is it the fact there is no quote-tweet function? And no algorithm driving emotional content?
@kathygriffin @dannagal all those, I think, plus the moderator model isn’t commercial. Server owners actually own the platform, and can cut other servers off. So Gab, for instance, is actually a mastodon server. However, it’s completely ostracised so it’s not on “mastodon”.
@kathygriffin Being over here is almost like being in recovery after putting up with years of BS and nastiness over there. Now that we’re moving away from The Dark Side, this is definitely a better place to be.
@kathygriffin The workers at Twitter are quitting as fast as they can.
@kathygriffin I mean they will find us eventually but it's nice for now!

@kathygriffin An important factor here is no ads, so no incentive to tolerate hate and abuse for eyeballs, profit, and shareholders.

Most instance admins are good about kicking out malicious actors and blocking toxic instances. Sure, this all will probably get harder with all this growth lately, but I feel like we’re on the right path.

@chartier @kathygriffin
I think this is a good model. I started reading about the small web since i joined, and i think it is the right way to progress

@kathygriffin

It took me a good while to decompress and stop "performing" in my posts. Once I did, I met some terrific friends here.

Weirdly, I never once felt like I made any friends on mainstream social media sites, just professional connections.

It's a nice change.

@kathygriffin I can’t imagine how hard that must have been to handle from a mental health standpoint.

@kathygriffin So true. The engagement here is very real and meaningful. Such a nice change.

Appreciate you and your sense of humor. Thank you for being awesome.

@kathygriffin

Unrelated: We thought CNN NYE couldn’t get more dry without you there. But they’re going for it.

@kathygriffin most of the right will go to gettr, grindr, parler, gab, and truth social. normies will come here.
@oppositeofzero @kathygriffin of course calling those who don’t agree with you “not normies” is a serious problem 🙁
@AWStephen @kathygriffin is that a joke? so racism, misogyny, bigotry, vaccine denialism, etc. is normal?
this is not discussing what the capital gains tax rate should be, or how much aid should be given to Ukraine. Twitter is toxic in the levels of idiocy there.
honestly, how you been on twitter?

@kathygriffin

The moment trump singled you out, his cult started harassing you. It wouldn’t surprise me if tяump’s campaign had hired troll farms for that purpose. He definitely had a hit list.

@kathygriffin nothing good can come of putting 90 percent of the world's population on one site, supercharged with ads and an algorithm that promotes negativity. Facebook, YouTube, etc all have the same problem and you can see it in the comments for any famous person. This site seems to address those issues pretty well!
@kathygriffin Totally. How did people even put up with it so long? You go away for awhile and try to go back and the contrast is even more stark.
@kathygriffin I never used Twitter, at first because I thought it was a silly fad and later on because I thought it was too late to get involved even though I felt I was missing out on being able to follow interesting people like you and @georgetakei
@kathygriffin On that same note, let us learn from our mistakes over there and not recreate them here.. Agree with you 100% this place is more normal, real and “human” ..
@[email protected] mastodon is the internet like early 2000s I started twitter 2008 and it was friendly like this platform because it was new. Once an app gets too popular you get all the idiots. I have a youtube account that gets some awful comments
@kathygriffin I am glad you put Mastadon on the map. Your troll of Musk was priceless. So happy you are here with us!
