It seems to me that their best solution is a poly triad and a round bed. Then they can be two big spoons at once.
Although I’m not entirely sure what the topology of the little spoons is in that case.

My concern with this image is, why did the partner not consider the Centaur and arrange for either a custom bed or push two California Kings together? Awfully rude and unthoughtful if you ask me. @joabaldwin A) You have interesting dreams/conundrums. B) The illustration helps describe the question beautifully. C) There are many more possible configurations to consider, including the Centaur not laying oh it's side, or the human being the Big spoon.
As for my answer to the direct question, I think it's the left picture is more comfortable and intimate for both parties.
