Mark Hertling

After watching the Trump “announcement,” I say this:

He is an evil, extremely dangerous man who threatens our democracy & our future.

Don’t tell me I’m breaching a “civil-military control” protocol. I’m retired now & believe stating this is critically important to our nation.

@danjhugo @markhertling I mean, it seems logical at first to think he can't get as far, but it's also not Murdock that puts people in the White House, it's the electoral college and a complacent system. If it was just up to Murdoch, I'd feel a lot better, but this country is about to walk into its next big test and we have to prep!

@markhertling I’m feeling kinder. That looked like the equivalent of a pop concert, with screaming fans - not indicative of normal US opinions. He didn’t sound as sure of himself as usual; quite low-key. His mid-terms were poor and the US has seen through him. Stay calm 🙂

I don’t think Trump really believes he has a chance of winning … it’s just another opportunity to grift his followers. Keep in mind that he collected over $100 million in donations for a legal fight against the “stolen election” and then pocketed it.

@markhertling - a few things not in his favor:

1) the youth vote was stronger & more influential in the mid-terms outcome this time around and will be even more in 2024.

2) He is not immune to prosecution for all of deeds currently under investigation, though he thinks announcing now might give him shelter.

3) Media support is weaker this time around. He doesn't have Murdoch's media arms behind him.

4) Support within his family is split. Ivanka is staying clear & away.
