Tomorrow will be the last day we see the Sun until February. Well we’ll likely not see it as it is forecast to be overcast. People image we have one long night, but that’s not true. We have a varying amount of twilight as the Sun skims below the horizon.
@NunavutBirder beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
@NunavutBirder Beautiful photos. You'll get to enjoy the aurora for many months!
@digitalrabbit We do more and more as the North Magnetic Pole moves away. When I first arrived we barely saw them, and even then they were mostly smudges on the southern horizon. We were in the hole of the doughnut so to speak. Now we are on the inside edge.
@NunavutBirder @digitalrabbit studies These images are exquisite. And how wonderful to have months to experience the aurora! Is it astonishing? I've never had the experience myself but all descriptions I have read sound incredible
@sarawasson @digitalrabbit all part of the breathtaking beauty of this place. Aurora are astonishing. So is the thousands year old light winking at us from the stars. And..and… so much more.
@sarawasson @digitalrabbit it is one of those phenomena that dazzles and take your breath away. I’ve been lucky enough to live in places where they could be seen throughout most of my life, in varying degrees of frequency and intensity. Fort Providence in the Deh Cho in the Northwest Territories probably had the best.
@NunavutBirder great pics. I to regret less sun these days.
@jcmacomber I don’t mind the dark season. It’s filled with beauty, lots to do (Christmas games etc.) and the returning light builds anticipation for Spring.
@NunavutBirder
I agree that there is a lot to lime about the dark season. I believe I have a little SADS because of the low light though. I usually push through it.
@jcmacomber SAD troubles many unfortunately, not so much here luckily as most have lived their entire lives, generations actually, with the waxing and waning of light and dark. I, luckily, had the circadian rhythm beat out of me with a life time of shift work, so I’m fine with the dark.
@NunavutBirder
Shift work, ahhh. I do week on week off switching from days to nights. It was hard on me. Did not like it.
@NunavutBirder the Night Sky must be gobsmacking
@alisca it is, and here we have very little light pollution to get in the way.

@NunavutBirder if I was up there I’d be no use; just gawping all the time

hang on for dear life up there!

@NunavutBirder these are gorgeous and enjoy the twilight and your unique view of a day.
@NunavutBirder Stunning Pics. They really make the beauty of the land stand out.
@NunavutBirder I live in NZ and cannot imagine spending winter in the dark.
@CarolynStirling I quite enjoy the dark season and our 24 hour light in the summer. The change each day is noticeable.
@NunavutBirder Magical! Amazing to see.
@Cheaptarts Thank you. It is magical.
@NunavutBirder Thank you for sharing. This looks very special.
@aroeves I live in an incredible place, within an incredible world.
@NunavutBirder That's got to be depressing a bit. Just the sun setting earlier now that DST has ended is hard to get used to.
@anarchist I actually enjoy the dark season. But I also had the circadian rhythm beat out of me with a life time of shift work.
@NunavutBirder Thank you, never knew that
@NunavutBirder Very cool photos. So many stars! What did you use to take the photos?
@NunavutBirder I should have read your bio first. Oops. Real camera with a real expert behind it. No wonder they look so great!
@rabo_karabekian I use #Canon #DSLR s and most of my astrophotography is done with a #Sigma 20mm 1.4f Art lens.
@NunavutBirder Cool, thank you for the details. Very nice photographs!
@rabo_karabekian You’re welcome, and thank you.
@NunavutBirder beautiful look at those stars ✨ I’d so love to see the aurora🤗
@NunavutBirder wow! I couldn’t cope, but it looks utterly beautiful in those pictures.
@richardireland It is a breathtaking place.
@NunavutBirder
Wow! Stunning photos! Thank you for a glimpse of your beautiful world.
@NunavutBirder I love your photos, they are simply stunning. And the sky and the lighted igloo! Fabulous. Thank you for a glimpse of the universe where you are ❤️😍
@NunavutBirder I'd love to see that!
@MDeanEsq Its an amazing place. Worth visiting in the dark season. Especially around Christmas time when the entire community gets together to play.

@NunavutBirder

Good luck. I already get antsy when the weather's been heavy cloud for 2 days.

Beautiful photos!

@coffee Thanks. As for the dark I do not mind the dark season at all. Nor, for that matter, 24 hour light which some people struggle with.
@NunavutBirder i visited northern norway a few years ago diring chrismas and new year. it was a great experience, but for me only 10 day no sun over the horizon. not sure if i could handle it for such a long time duration.
@re_do It’s not for everyone, to be sure. But I quite enjoy the dark season. There’s beauty in the night. It is a busy time and soon the twilight is growing each day and there is an anticipation of the return of the Sun.
