I’m reluctant to say this prematurely… but I have a feeling that the fever has broken. Many challenges ahead in the near and long term, but reality is starting to assert itself: election deniers, crypto, and Russia are all evidencing signs of collapse.

At some point, “manifesting” has to be backed up by facts. No lie lasts forever.

@davetroy facts > vibes and I am, as the kids say, here for it.

@davetroy

It may have peaked, but there will be a very long tail.

@EubieDrew @davetroy the long tail is the judiciary. We’ll be dealing with the corrupt ideologues that Trump put in place for the next 30+ years.
@davetroy Your word ... my hope.
@NurseAnnie999 @davetroy I feel the same way, I find Dave thoughtful and trustworthy, and not easily fooled.
@davetroy Some who migrated to mastodon complain it isn’t entertaining/fun. This will be an issue for the dopamine addicted Twitter users.
@RogelioMartinez I think some people might have confused 'fun' for being triggered with fight/flight reflex. I could do with a lot less of that kind of 'fun' myself. 😉
@davetroy @RogelioMartinez a lot of that , but most of the actual laughs I’ve had in the past few grim years have been from Twitter’s small accounts (not the self-important Tweeters from on high).
I hope the absurd humor is replicated here.

@ElleSmith @davetroy @RogelioMartinez

Well, @DarthPutinKGB is already here, for my geopolitical humor requirements

@davetroy I’ve had that same feeling - happy to hear you’re having it too
@davetroy The cryptobubble was designed to fail, it just wasn't to fail now. I think the collapse of the russian army (and nothing else is what happened in Cherson) has brought some people to the idea, relying on russia would not be in their best interest. So they got their assets out of crypto as long as they could make some money from it. The real collapse will come in the first half of 2023, Bitcoin will get regulations in the west I think.
@alanthir @davetroy I think a lot of people getting out now are just trying to convert to normal currency to wait out whatever the knock on consequences of FTX going under are.

I want to know what's going on with the mysterious "ancient" bitcoin wallets that are suddenly becoming active.

If I was the world's biggest holder of arrested Bitcoin and thought @davetroy was onto something regarding the anti-dollar coalition and their plans for twitter, I may be thinking about how to quenche a manufactured hype cycle without giving libertarians the opportunity to play the victim or depending on republicans to pass crypto regulation. A constant slow bleed sell off rather than a spectacular crash might be how I'd do it. That'd also be hilarious because you'd have a bunch of silicon valley libertarians voluntarily dumping money into government coffers without getting anything in return.

This is all just paranoia and conjecture though.
@dave @davetroy sure, that's the next wave of panic sellers, those who "hodl'ed" to long and are now starting to panic, because it's still "bearish" (what kind of shit lingo they made up, you can see right away they are uncreative right wingers). The big ones are more asset shifting then really selling at the moment. Some old wallets got reopened now, because there will be a shit ton of stolen cryptos in them and they just lay still until the smoke was gone and the spiel got called
@davetroy not sure I’d lump crypto in with people like election deniers or Russia. Maybe there’s an overlap (probably not) but the collapse of one crypto exchange isn’t anything new and doesn’t really mean much for the tech itself.
@Setok they're intrinsically connected. The tech will prove to be a footnote once the Ponzi schemes are gone.

How reactionary grievances have helped bring America’s democracy to the brink of collapse

@davetroy tech never fully disappears. The core value, for those for whom it matters, has nothing to do with Ponzi schemes.
@Setok yes. that's why I think it will end up being a niche instrument.
@davetroy Boy I hope this prediction is right …. but seems like we keep falling for the same damn garbage over & over again
@Miz_Rosenberg Not so much a prediction as a report of current weather conditions. Things could change on a dime... we'll see how things go over the next 3 months in particular.
@davetroy Hearing this from you is amazing - and just what I hoped for!
@davetroy I think I’ll let out a sigh of relief in February. Holding my breath til then.
@Kiki Yes, that's about the right timing.
@davetroy GLORY BE. I sure hope that's the right take.
@davetroy thank you for all that you have and are doing to call attention to symptoms, provide clear-eyed diagnoses, and offer action-oriented attention. It is needed and is part, to carry the analogy, of the antibodies that are at work to help keep things from further degradation and harm.
@davetroy I feel the same. Still more work to be done but, yeah, I feel better than I have for awhile.
@davetroy it's giving me hope that reality might prevail. now we just need to add covid minimizers and climate change deniers to the list

@davetroy

also showing signs of collapse, in a good way:

- corporate social media (both twitter & facebook)
- the concept that billionaires are billionaires because they know what they're doing

not showing signs of collapse yet, unfortunately:

- gun culture & military cosplay
- the concept that economic growth is critical to quality of life

@davetroy It's the perfect time to keep stepping up with clear thinking, and putting new ideas and solutions forward.

As the house of cards starts to topple, people will be grasping for what to think and believe. Thanks for your leadership!

@davetroy

Does rather feel as though a terrible house of cards is collapsing
