Having now observed the Hegseth and Trump speeches, I'd describe their approach as "soft purge." Both made references to making things uncomfortable for those not aligned with their worldview. Creates a basis for gradual firings and resignations going forward.

Journalists should do their part by not backstopping the administration’s absurd claims. If they are going to assert that “antifa” is an organized group, force them to name names and identify money flows. If they claim to be tracking foreign influence, what they will find is funds from Russia and China in particular backstopping the administration’s OWN criminal acts.
Rub their dirty faces in that fact. Do not comply, do not play along.

For well over a year now, we have heard the constant drumbeat of negativity on the economy. Stubborn inflation would require higher interest rates to tame, which would lead to economic contraction, job losses and, inevitably, a recession. Then something like a big strike might come along and further cripple the economy, perhaps as soon as August 1. The thought that this would then sink Joe Biden’s poll numbers even more and set Trump up for a win in 2024 has left many anxious and fearful.
