I'm seeing more discussions around the intersection of #UX and #ProductManagement . This is a good thing.

There is a problem there that really needs solving.

I've been discussing it with peers for a while, and it's good to see others now approaching it.

@eduardo_rich curious to hear the takes you’re getting so far. Happy to put my oar in if it’s of any use.

@jwood all views are welcome 🙂

The consensus so far is more around the problem.

#ProductManagement existed, and #UX has come in from the side BUT because of the nature of the work, they both want to own some of the same things.

@jwood When it comes to strategy, then it gets really messy.

#ux #uxstrategy #productmanagememt

@jwood but then even within #ux that gets messy, depending on the maturity of the organisation and their take on 'strategy'.
@eduardo_rich yeah, I can see that. I think it depends on the company and its history in this area. I’ve only just joined a new place where UX is a small team, currently more in the design rather than the research side - it’s a great opportunity to me to embed UX as a strategic pillar (really important for my product) and present the business case for UX which provides a set of goals. That said, as long as clear business goals are set, existing UX strategy could be adopted into Product
@jwood Very much in agreement. It depends on the maturity levels of the #productmanagement and #ux functions, which can differ wildly from each other within the same organisation.
@eduardo_rich from that I have observed, too, there are two other factors - one is reporting lines, and the other (which influences it) is the maturity of the company strategy. I’ve always said that a Product Strategy (particularly when it comes to success metrics) is very difficult without an overall company strategy. What you’re describing here would equally apply to sales, marketing, partnerships, and plenty of other parts of an organisation.
@jwood Absolutely. The way I explain #uxstrategy is by showing how it ties to the business strategy, defining outcomes which #ux and #productmanagement can align to.
@jwood with no company strategy, you can still move forward but #ux and #productmanagement had better be aligned else all hell can break loose
@jwood ... but having said that, no company strategy? Lol 🤣, but yes, it happens
@eduardo_rich oh the tales I could tell…! The worst one was thinking that Crossing The Chasm meant throwing c**p at a wall and seeing what stuck, rather than, y’know, doing research before wasting investors money on could-be-successfuls…
@jwood oh my. That's a fun one!
@jwood growing the research maturity is fundamental to growing the #uxmaturity of the organisation. There is probably a tipping point, company politics aside, where it all becomes more clear and #productmanagement and #ux interact ina much more symbiotic manner
