Byway of #introduction, I am Nancy, #autistic, #nonbinary, #polyam, #exchristian interested in books, #knitting, #pets, #movies and conversation. I still have so much to learn about #neurodivergent life.
@NDSeeker Yo welcome fellow neurodivergent person!
@aceofhearts Thank you. I’m so glad to be here. I already like it better than the bird app. How long have you been on Mastodon?
@NDSeeker Um a few days actually!
@aceofhearts Me, too. I like the way you can specify the CWs here. That’s such a nice thing. And I’m glad to have a new start. My Twitter was people from my old job, etc., and it wasn’t as comfortable for me.
@NDSeeker I'm just here to talk about being neurodivergent
@aceofhearts Same. I formed a second account for the other stuff.
@NDSeeker Very niceee!
@aceofhearts over time I’m realizing what a Stranger in a Strange Land life I’m living. I need to find some normal people like us. 🙃
@NDSeeker Period! Neurodivergent people are great!
@aceofhearts That has been my experience. I was thinking yesterday about a group of mean girls at a job I had who made fun of me like we were in middle school. 🙄 and they say we have no social skills.
@NDSeeker Facts. At least I know basic human manners.
@aceofhearts For sure. It helped a lot to move to a more technical job. Whether they do it consciously or not, they accommodate ND people much better.
@NDSeeker Yesss I love that for you!
@aceofhearts it’s great in that way. And they back me when I refuse to talk to people on the phone. I find the phone very taxing, aurally and socially. I do it sometimes but it’s awful.
@NDSeeker I can see that. I hate the phone cuz tone is different on there.
@aceofhearts I read that it’s the compression they use. It makes it more harsh on the ears. I have some Bose earbuds. However Bose determines their baseline sound mix cuts some of it. But it’s still an ouchy, anxiety provoking thing for me.
@NDSeeker I heard about thoes ear buds!
@aceofhearts As a good ND, I have several kinds of earbuds and earplugs, but Bose suits me best. I wish something offered true silence as needed.
@NDSeeker same. I just listen to loud music. But i also hate loud noises
@aceofhearts The noise thing is the hardest aspect of this for me. I do better with noises I control, even if they are loud. Loud music that is syncing with where my head is at is amazing. Also me: Putting felt or silicone bumpers on all the cabinet doors and drawers. I need to map out what noise is OK for me and what noise sends me over the edge, because it just makes no sense sometimes.
