Post-modernism - I know exactly what it is... Have lived with this crap for nearly 30 years, studed it at university. Changing the subject is adding more shit. You won't to help shoval, lots of composting to do.

Yes you would be right are attacking the decaying left... That's not saying anything am addressing.

@hamishcampbell
Are you able to describe the precise characteristics of #postModernism you are seeing? We how do you identify it?
@dsfgs if you look for the #deathcult you will find postmodern alongside it.

@hamishcampbell
I understand the (#)deathcult hashtag, in fact we use it. Are you say postmodern to represent neoliberalism (what we call (#)corporatism or (#)corporateState) and the post 60s and 70s ideology of sing kumbaya and focus on mindfulness and the self etc?

Postmodern is often referred to in art and culture but not so much in activism, why we a trying to understand it, is there are crossover between art and culture, and activism that we might be missing?

@hamishcampbell
Whenever we read postmodernism, in your toots we assumed it was this post 1971 ideology of neolib corporateState, but we just want to be 100% sure.

We don't want to say one thing when people read/interpret something else.

@dsfgs @hamishcampbell the problem with postmodernism is that it can be turned into everything for everybody as long as it's about individualism.

@witchescauldron
Okay, yep. Got it, thankyou.

We absolutely love that song '#PureImagination' from the #1971 film, #WillyWonka and the ChocolateFactory. But it does slightly dement every person who hears it.

The sad part is the #film itself rejects notions of #individualism… but its that #song and that melody that they can play at any time to bring people back to #deathcult ideology when needed!

@hamishcampbell

@dsfgs @hamishcampbell its the underlining ideology of some current "left" thinking identity politics and its spores. its also a darling of the right as its "post" logical. I tend to think #fashionista #stupidindivisalisam and a very good fit for the #deathcult

@witchescauldron
StupidIndividualism is another good hashtag, yes. Its more visceral. The word 'postmodern' is more academic.

We didn't enough attention to that part in high school art class theory, partly because we were told we direct need to, haha.

All we remember about it was #soupCans something something. Very chronicly soup cans.

We didn't pay enough attention to that part in high school art theory, partly because we were told we didn't need to, haha.

All we remember about it was #soupCans something something. Very chronically focussed on bloodly soup cans. We thought it was a bit silly and didn't take much interest, tbh.

The best documentary we've seen on #postmodernism and much more is the #TheCenturyOfTheSelf by #AdamCurtis (#BBC 2002).

Its four one-hour episodes but its highly detailed and entertaining. It should be required viewing for high-school #historyClasses. Teens will no doubt get a #laugh from the constant references to 'deep, primitive #sexual urges', haha.

Seriously though, it features many topics for further #study:

The Century of the Self - Part 1: "Happiness Machines"

The story of the relationship between Sigmund Freud and his American nephew, Edward Bernays. Bernays invented the public relations profession in the 1920s and was the first person to take Freud's ideas to manipulate the masses. He showed American corporations how they could make people want things they didn't need by systematically linking mass-produced goods to their unconscious desires. Bernays was one of the main architects of the modern techniques of mass-consumer persuasion, using every trick in the book, from celebrity endorsement and outrageous PR stunts, to eroticising the motorcar. His most notorious coup was breaking the taboo on women smoking by persuading them that cigarettes were a symbol of independence and freedom. But Bernays was convinced that this was more than just a way of selling consumer goods. It was a new political idea of how to control the masses. By satisfying the inner irrational desires that his uncle had identified, people could be made happy and thus docile. It was the start of the all-consuming self which has come to dominate today's world. Originally broadcast on 29th April 2002.
