Yeah... I resisted upgrading to a smartphone, in the first place, just to keep that tactile keyboard on the phone for as long as I could!
Pine64 unveiled a new keyboard case for the PinePhone. While the pictures and videos do not show the case working at this point, they show the design of the case. The beveled keys and included 6000 mAh battery make the case thick, but it may present a convenient package for those in search of a small Linux laptop.

@c3manu Sorry! It was indigogo. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/astro-slide-5g-transformer#/
It is open to latecomers, but isn't available to purchase yet. They say June but I tend to expect slippage on these things
No, but yes, but no 🤣
I really like small Bluetooth keyboards, but for me, they have entirely different use cases.
A built-in keyboard is great for doing what I’m doing right at this moment. Quickly typing out messages is so much better on a physical keyboard on the device.
Small Bluetooth keyboards are great for doing a little bit of work on my phone in a pinch. I’ve used them before when I was out and I got a call or text about something urgent that needed done at work.
I would pull out my Bluetooth keyboard, set my phone up like a small monitor, log into my home computer, and do some work.
But if I had to do that just to type out some messages, it would be too onerous.
I got one of them. They're end-of-life tho, with no further security / Android patches.
@fribbledom i know what you mean. there are a few but i've hesitated to make the jump. anyway, i keep a list.

@magnargj @fribbledom @ubports I recall someone proving that soft keyboards were faster to type on than hardware keyboards. The participants all had to write some sentence of text, and then timed them. The soft keyboard won.
Now of course, I don't think the users hadn't used hardware keyboards before. Also, they should have included some Unix commandline examples as well. I'm not sure the soft keyboard would have don't so well with the those.
@magnargj @fribbledom @ubports sure. I don't deny it may be. But there are definitely a lot of small jobs I used to do using a terminal on the phone back when I hard work hardware keyboard which I simply don't do because typing Unicorn command on a soft keyboard is such a nightmare.
For typing regular text, like I am doing right now, the effectively speed is about the same, but that's just because the text prediction works reasonable well. However, typing on a soft keyboard takes a lot more mental effort than using a hardware keyboard.

Wasn't there one recently with a slide-out keyboard? Or was that just a prototype?
I'd also like to ask for frames around the screen. Make it half a millimeter or less, just make sure the first thing that touches the floor when it falls is not glass. Having to buy extra protectors just to have a chance of not breaking it is so silly.
Oh and spyware. Maybe also not load it with software that exfiltrates all data by default? That'd be sweet!
